Dieppe, NB – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jean-Guy Poirier, aged 68, a resident of Saint-Anselme / Dieppe and husband of Monique E. LeBlanc for 45 years. He passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021 after a battle against cancer that had been present in his life for more than 40 years.

Born January 30, 1953 in Atholville, he was the son of the late John Poirier and the late Rita (Mazerolle) Poirier.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his beloved son Rémi (Holly) Poirier from Greenwood (N.S.) and his adored granddaughter Marielle Poirier; his five sisters: Jeannine (Jacques) Doiron of Campbellton, Murielle (Maurice) Power of Atholville, Claudia (Blake) Jennings of Dalhousie, Doris (Keith) Adams of Tide Head and Ginette (Michel) Soucy of Atholville; his two brothers: Omer (Ann) Poirier of Atholville and Yves (Michelle) Poirier of Tide Head, as well as his close friends who were with him during his life on Earth.

Jean-Guy studied at the Université de Moncton where he donned the Aigles Bleus jersey as a goaltender. He then pursued a career in banking and economic development, working at the BDC and the ACOA office in Moncton, among others. Jean-Guy was, above all, gifted with great kindness and generosity eager to learn since his adolescence. He was passionate about reading, the quest for truth and human evolution towards a better world. His numerous researches led him to travel in France, Scotland, Portugal and in different regions of Acadia. In addition, his spiritual journey took him to walk more than 4000 km on the Way to Santiago de Compostela in Spain and France. His sense of devotion led him to serve his community during many years, notably on the boards of directors of La Solitude de Pré-d’en-Haut and Nation Prospère Acadie, where he will be remembered for his generous and visionary spirit as well as his quiet strength. Jean-Guy leaves us on his final journey today, but part of the essence of his being, namely his goodness and his faith in a better world, remains with us.

We all want to thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, Jean-Guy, for your presence among us.

In his memory, a donation to La Solitude de Pré-d’en-Haut would be appreciated.

Please note that a ceremony to celebrate Jean-Guy’s life will be held at a later date, most likely this summer.
