It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Adélard, of Dieppe, on July 31, 2016 at the Dr. George-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. Born in Saint-Paul-de-Kent, he was the son of the late Edmond and Lina (née Dionne) Cormier.
Adélard was a loving husband to his wife, Élodie (née Breau), with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on August 20; a loving father to his two daughters, Patricia Dupuis Robinson and Joanne Costain; a loving grandfather to Samantha Costain, Jérémie Dupuis, Mathieu Costain and Jade Robinson; and a loving father-in-law to Kevin Costain and Rodney Robinson.
He also leaves to mourn five sisters: Sr. Florence Cormier, ndsc, Anita (late Armand Bourgeois), Sr. Stella Cormier, ndsc, Sr. Jeannine Cormier, ndsc, and Phyllis (Leandre) Maillet; one brother, Oscar (Lorette) and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters: Yvonne, Dorice and Emilie and also by two brothers: Yvon and Henri.
Adélard worked most of his life as a farmer. In the early 50’s, he and his beloved brother Henri purchased the historic Gesner Farm, in Saint-Anselme. As the town of Dieppe grew, the brothers started a land development company and transformed their farmland into what would become one of the first modern subdivisions in the Saint-Anselme/Dieppe area – the Beauséjour/Domaine Beauséjour. Adélard also worked at CNR Railways as a machinist for over 20 years. After his retirement, Adélard enjoyed spending summers in his garden and winters in Florida. In his final years, he became a faithful fan of the Montréal Canadiens and the Toronto Blue Jays, watching every game with his wife Élodie by his side.
Adélard will always be remembered as a hard worker and a devoted family man. Calm and confident with enormous inner strength, he was also patient and generous, and could always be counted on in times of need.
Visitation will be held at the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB (857-1901) on Thursday August 4, 2016, from 11 am until 1pm, followed by a Celebration of the Word at the Chartersville Funeral Home Chapel.
The family would like to thank the CHU Dumont Palliative Care Department for the loving care they gave Adélard in his final days. They also want to thank the staff at the Oasis Residence for all the care, love and support they gave Adélard and his family over the past six years.
Donations to the CHU Dumont Palliative Care Department or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Adélard était un mari dévoué pour sa femme Élodie (née Breau), avec laquelle il aurait célébré 70 ans de mariage le 20 août; un père aimant pour ses deux filles, Patricia Dupuis Robinson et Joanne Costain; un grand-père aimant pour Samantha Costain, Jérémie Dupuis, Mathieu Costain et Jade Robinson; et un beau-père aimant pour Kevin Costain et Rodney Robinson.
Il laisse également dans le deuil cinq sœurs : Sr Florence Cormier, ndsc, Anita (feu Armand Bourgeois), Sr Stella Cormier, ndsc, Sr Jeannine Cormier, ndsc, et Phyllis (Leandre) Maillet; un frère, Oscar (Lorette) ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.
Il a été précédé dans la mort par trois sœurs : Yvonne, Dorice et Emilie; et par deux frères, Yvon et Henri.
On se souviendra toujours d’Adélard comme un grand travaillant et un homme de famille dévoué. Un homme calme, confiant et de grande force intérieure, Adélard était également patient et généreux et toujours prêt à venir en aide à ceux dans le besoin.
Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe N.-B. (857-1901), le jeudi 4 août 2016, de 11 h à 13 h, suivi par la célébration de la Parole à la chapelle de la Maison funéraire Chartersville.
La famille tient à remercier le personnel des Soins palliatifs du CHU Dumont pour les soins attentionnés qu’a reçu Adélard durant ses derniers jours, ainsi que le personnel de la Résidence Oasis pour les soins, l’amour et le soutien offerts à Adélard et à la famille au cours des six dernières années.
Un don aux Soins palliatifs de Fondation CHU Dumont ou à la Fondation des maladies du cœur serait apprécié par la famille.
