Albenie Drapeau, 94, of Veterans’ Health Center, Moncton, NB, passed away on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015, at his residence.
Born in Balmoral, NB, he was the son of the late Alexandre and the late Elize (née: LeBlanc) Drapeau.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Drapeau worked at NBIP, Dalhousie. He was a WW II veteran, having served overseas as a sergeant with the North Shore Regiment from 1935-1946, where he took part in the Normandie battle. He was a former member of the Dalhousie and Moncton Legions; a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the Dieppe Veterans’ Association, the Club d’Age d’Or de Dieppe and Sainte-Thérèse parish.
He is survived by his wife, Germaine (née: Pinet); one daughter, Laurette Drapeau of Dieppe; three sons: Jean-Marc (Diane) of Montréal, QC, Armel (Denise) of Edmundston and Conrad (Liz) of Florida; one sister, Claire; two sisters-in-law: Evangeline and Marielle; five grandchildren: Vincent (Marie-Chantal), Philippe (Valérie), Carie, Alix-Eve and Iza; one great-grandson, Ethan, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by five sisters: Edna, Eugénie, Imelda, Annette and Lorraine and also by five brothers: Alphée, Roger, Edmond, Gérald and Rhéal.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB (857-1901) on Sunday from 7 to 9 pm, the Dieppe Veterans will have a prayer service at 7 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Sainte-Thérèse Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB, on Monday, February 9th, 2015 at 11 am.
Interment in Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cemetery, Dalhousie NB.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Né à Balmoral, N.-B., il était fils de feu Alexandre et de feu Elize (née LeBlanc) Drapeau.
Avant sa retraite, M. Drapeau avait travaillé au NBIP à Dalhousie. Il a servi outre-mer avec le régiment North Shore, comme sergent, durant la deuxième guerre mondial de 1935 à 1946, et a participé dans la bataille de Normandie. Il a été membre de la légion à Dalhousie et Moncton et était membre au 3ième dégrée des Chevaliers de Colomb, de l’Association des vétérans de Dieppe, du Club d’Age d’Or de Dieppe et de la paroisse Sainte-Thérèse.
Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Germaine (née Pinet); une fille, Laurette Drapeau de Dieppe; trois fils: Jean-Marc (Diane) de Montréal, QC, Armel (Denise) d’Edmundston et Conrad (Liz) de Floride; une soeur, Claire; deux belles-soeurs: Evangeline et Marielle; cinq petits-enfants: Vincent (Marie-Chantal), Philippe (Valérie), Carie, Alix-Eve et Iza; un arrière petit-fils, Ethan, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.
Outre ses parents, cinq soeurs: Edna, Eugénie, Imelda, Annette et Lorraine ainsi que cinq frères: Alphée, Roger, Edmond, Gérald et Rhéal, l’ont précédé dans la tombe.
Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe, N.-B. (857-1901), le dimanche de 19h à 21h, Les prières par les vétérans de Dieppe seront dit à 19h.
La messe des funérailles aura lieu en l’église Sainte-Thérèse à Dieppe, N.-B., le lundi 9 février 2015, à 11h.
L’inhumation se fera au cimetière Saint-Jean-Baptiste à Dalhousie, N.-B.
Un don à la Société Alzheimer serait apprécié par la famille.
