In Loving Memory Of
Alphonse Melanson
1935 ~ 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, brother and friend Alphonse Melanson at the age of 90. He is survived by his five children: Charline (John Bourque), Nicole (Maurice Belliveau), Diane, Luc (Francine), and Chantal (Dave Foley); his eight grandchildren: Julien, Janik, Mathieu, Jérémie, Jocelyne, Josée, Zacharie and Julie; his eight and soon to be nine great-grandchildren, whom he adored! His brother Angelo (Yolande), his sisters: Juliette, Annette and Gracia; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Germaine, his father Eloi, mother Julie (Arsenault), his sisters Eloise DesRoches (Joseph), Imelda and Lucille Babin (Raymond) and his brothers Honoré, Leonard, Yvon, Ola and Léonce.

Dad’s greatest joy was being close to his family. Even just a few weeks before his passing he still attended family suppers and gatherings and had the pleasure of meeting his 8th great grandchild. The pride he has always had for having a wonderful wife and family was remarkable and he would mention this often, even during his final days he told us how thankful he was for his family.

Alphonse graduated from College St Joseph and later on was the proud owner of Moncton Carpetland. After many years of working long hours and being great to his clientele, he later on took a position with The Moncton Sewage Commission to end his working career.

Alphonse was very active and devoted to many committees and played a very important role with all of them. The Chevaliers de Colomb, Paroisse Notre Dame de la Paix, Golden Age Clubs (Moncton/Grand Digue) even up to a few months ago he was selling tickets for his famous Loto 104 for fundraising. He also loved making poutines rapées with these groups. He loved playing pool, cards, crib, pochettes, lawn bowling, bowling, washers, horseshoes, and many more games. He also enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden and doing many handyman and construction projects. Our Dad will be missed and remembered for his devotion to his family and his commitment to everyone he had in his life. He was always ready to help his family and friends with many projects.

We would like to thank everyone who was by his side for his final days and staff at Oasis Residence and Georges Dumont Hospital.

Visitation will be held at Passage-Chartersville Funeral Home (363 Amirault St, Dieppe, NB, E1A 1G1, 506-857-1901), on Wednesday July 8, 2026, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and Thursday July 9, 2026, from 9:30am to 11:00am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am in the Passage Funeral Home Chapel.
