It is with great sadness that the family of Brenda LeBlanc announces her passing on June 17, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer with family at her side.
Brenda was the daughter of the late Rita (née: LeBlanc) and the late Eloi Gautreau. She was born in Petawawa, Ontario but raised in Dieppe (Saint-Anselme), NB.
She was a loving wife to the late Roger “Hibou” LeBlanc (2006), caring mother to daughter, Lise of NS and son, René of Bermuda and devoted grandmother to Matthew. She is survived by one sister, Gisele Surette (Louis) of Dieppe, her mother-in-law, Osithe LeBlanc, many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Brenda’s first passion was her work as Councillor for the Dieppe City Council. She was first elected in 1995 and re-elected in 1998, 2001 and 2004. During her time on Council, she participated as Councillor, Councillor-at-Large and Deputy Mayor(1998-1999 and 2001-2002). She also participated in many committees such as the Joint Committee on Health and Safety, the Dieppe Public Library Commission, the Accessibility Committee, Tri-Community Santa Claus Parade Committee, Greater Moncton Pest Control Commission, Water & Sewer Committee-City of Moncton and the working Committee for outside fires in residential areas and worked hard on many projects. She took great pride in her work as Liaison Councillor to the Fire Department. She held them in great respect for the work that they do. Brenda had a strong voice for the citizens of Dieppe. She was known for her fiery spirit and fought hard for her riding and all the people of Dieppe. Brenda worked towards transparency for the public to increase their confidence in the system. She touched the lives of so many people.
Brenda loved working in her flower garden, reading, travelling, shopping trips and being with her family. She took great delight in her only grandchild, Matthew.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, 857-1901, on Sunday June 22nd 2008 from 7 to 9 pm, on Monday, June 23rd from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, on Tuesday, June 24th 2008 at 11 am.
Interment in Notre-Dame du Calvaire Cemetery, Dieppe, NB.
Donations to the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital “Tree of Hope”or the Friends of the Moncton Hospital “Palliative care unit” would be greatly appreciated by the family.
C’est avec tristesse que la famille de Brenda LeBlanc annonce son décès le 17 juin 2008 après un long combat contre le cancer. Elle était entourée de sa famille.
Brenda était la fille de feu Rita (née: LeBlanc) et feu Eloi Gautreau. Elle était née à Petawawa, Ontario et a grandit à Dieppe, N.-B., (Saint-Anselme).
Elle était épouse de feu Roger “Hibou” LeBlanc, (2006), mère attentionné de sa fille, Lise de la Nouvelle-Écosse, son fils, René des Bermudes et une grand-mère dévouée à Matthew. Autre ses enfants, elle laisse dans le deuil une soeur, Gisèle (Louis) Surette de Dieppe, sa belle-mère Osithe LeBlanc, plusieurs beaux-frères, belle-soeurs, neveux et nieces.
La première passion de Brenda était son travail comme conseillère pour la Ville de Dieppe. Elle a été élue en 1995 et réélue en 1998, 2001 et 2004. Pendant ces années, Brenda a siégé comme conseillère, conseillère-générale et maire-adjointe (1998-1999 et 2001-2002). Elle a travaillé avec plusieurs comités/groupes tels que le Comité conjoint sur la santé et la sécurité au travail, la Commission de la bibliothèque publique de Dieppe, le Comité d’accessibilité, Comité des trois communautés du défilé du Père Noël, la Commission de désnsectisation du Grand-Moncton, le Comité d’eau et égout de la Ville de Moncton, le Comité des feux en plein air et plusieurs autres projets. Brenda était très fière de son travail comme liaison au Services des Incendies de la municipalité. Elle avait énormément de respect pour le travail qu’ils accomplissaient. Brenda était porte-parole pour les citoyens de la Ville de Dieppe. Elle était connue pour son esprit passionné et travaillait fort pour toute la municipalité. Brenda a toujours justifié ses décisions lors des réunions publiques et aux bénéfices du public. Elle voulait que la population ait confiance dans le système municipale. Elle a touché la vie de plusieurs personnes.
Brenda adorait travailler dans son jardins de fleurs, lire, voyager, magasiner et passer du temps précieux avec sa famille. Elle avait énormément de plaisir avec son petits-fils, Matthew.
Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe, N.-B., (857-1901) le dimanche 22 juin de 19h à 21h, et le lundi 23 juin de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h.
Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Anselme, le mardi 24 juin, 2008 à 11h.
L’inhumation au cimetière Notre-Dame du Calvaire, Dieppe, N.-B.
Un don à la fondation Hôpital Dr Georges-L. Dumont “ Arbre de Espoir” ou à la Fondation des Amis de l’Hôpital “ Soins Palliatifs” serait apprecié par la famille.
