In Loving Memory Of
Brigit Elinora McLaren
1950 - 2026

Riverview, NB – It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Brigit Elinora McLaren (née Alstrup), 76, of Riverview, New Brunswick. Brigit passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, surrounded by the love, comfort, and presence of her family. Though our hearts are broken by her loss, we find comfort in knowing that she was surrounded by those who loved her dearly.

Born on July 15, 1950, Brigit spent her childhood growing up in Wallace Station alongside her siblings. She later made her home in Truro, where she began her own family, before eventually settling in Riverview NB, where she created a life filled with family, love, and countless memories. Brigit was a woman who gave so much of herself to the people she loved. She was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, a loving great-grandmother, a cherished sister, and a true friend. Her family was the centre of her world, and she showed her love not only through her words, but through the countless little things she did for those around her. She had a special passion for knitting, and one of her greatest joys was sharing that passion with her grandchildren. She patiently taught them her craft, passed along her skills, and, most importantly, gave them her time. Those moments spent together became precious memories that will be carried in their hearts for years to come.

Brigit will be deeply missed by her loving children: her son, Kelly (Joan) McLaren, and her daughters, April (Derek) Hansen, Heather McLaren, and Karen McLaren. She was a cherished “Nanny” to Liam, Debra Jane, Savannah, Marissa, Kyla, Camden, Delilah, and Madison, and an adoring great-grandmother to Hazel, Moxie, Jackson, and Kinsley. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought a special kind of happiness to her life, and the love she had for each of them was immeasurable. Brigit is also survived and dearly missed by her sisters, Gurli (Norman) Smith, Judy (Ron) Sherry, and Winnie (Larry) Chase, as well as her brother, Erling (Frances) Alstrup.

She was predeceased by her parents, Karl and Else (Hansen) Alstrup; her infant sisters, Britta and Betty; her infant son, Nicholas Joseph; her brother, Benny Alstrup; and her nephew, Danny.

She leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends, each with their own memories and stories of a woman who touched their lives in her own special way.

Brigit will be remembered for her warmth, her kindness, her generous heart, and the love she so freely gave to her family. She leaves behind more than memories—she leaves pieces of herself in the people she loved, in the lessons she taught, in the traditions she shared, and in the many lives she made brighter simply by being there. Although she is no longer with us, her love will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. We will miss her deeply, but we will carry her with us always.

Rest peacefully, Mom, Nanny, and Great-Nanny. You were loved more than words can ever say, and you will be missed more than words can ever express.

Burial will take place at Life Celebrations Cemetery in Renaud’s Mills, New Brunswick, on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, at 10:30 am. The procession will start at 9:30 am at Passage Funeral Cooperative, 3754 NB-134, Shediac Bridge, NB.
