Caterina Adelfia Corazza Toffolo Taurian, born October 21, 1922, passed away peacefully at her home in Moncton, NB, on September 16, 2013 at the age of 90 surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Chions, (Friuli, Italy) she was the daughter of Pietro and Augusta Corazza, the youngest of 5 sisters (Estina, Elisa, Elda and Irma) and 4 brothers (Giovanni, Enzo, Antonio, and Alfonso) with whom she had a long and loving relationship. In 1949 she immigrated to Canada to marry her fiance, Giulio Toffolo, with whom she had two children, Robert and Bruna (Paul Caracristi). The Toffolo family formed lifelong friendships while residing in Quebec City, Ottawa (Ont), Windsor (Ont), LaFayette (Indiana) and Moncton (NB). Both Giulio and Robert predeceased her in 1964 and 1993 respectively.
In 1971 she established and operated European Variety the first delicatessen in Moncton. In 1975 she married Mario Taurian with whom she shared 38 loving years of her life. Caterina and Mario retired in 1995 and spent their later years traveling, visiting family and friends, gardening and spending winters in St. Petersburg, Florida. Caterina was much loved by all who knew her. She was kind, respectful, considerate, and always ready to share a smile, a good word and her wholesome spirit.
Very special thanks is extended for the excellent care provided by the Extramural Driscoll Unit, We Care Home Health Services and the Palliative and Geriatric Team who assisted Caterina with her wish to remain at home.
A service will take place September 21st at 11:00 AM in St Bernard’s Church, Botsford St. in Moncton, NB, followed by a reception in the Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB (857-1901).
