Sainte-Marie de Kent, NB – It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, Catherine Léger. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving children, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the age of 72, at the Maison Albert House in Moncton, NB.
Born in Moncton, Catherine was the daughter of Hervé (Harvey) Vautour and Louise (LeBlanc) Vautour of Pointe-du-Chêne.
Catherine will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Marc (Chantal) Léger from Bouctouche, Mathieu (Vanessa) Léger from Moncton, and Suzanne (Daniel) Léger from Grande-Digue, as well as her stepdaughter, Ginette Léger from Moncton. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Christopher (Monique), Xavier, Liliane, Alice, Patric, and Dominic, her sister, Gisèle (late Yvon) Comeau of Shediac, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Catherine will also be dearly missed by her many close friends and former coworkers at Canada Post.
She was predeceased by the father of her children, the late Donald Léger, in 2024.
Catherine proudly worked for Canada Post for over 32 years, including as Postmaster in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent. She was also involved in the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association at the executive level for many years, which allowed her to travel all over Canada, meeting many colleagues along the way.
Catherine was a passionate soul who touched the lives of everyone she met. Smart as a whip and gifted with a dry sense of humor, she was a friend and confidant to many. In the summer, you would find her lovingly tending her garden, nurturing each plant and flower, and enjoying the birds at her many feeders. A skilled seamstress, she made beautiful clothing and later found joy in quilting, each piece reflecting her care and creativity. In the kitchen, Catherine’s touch was nothing short of magical. The love she poured into meals turned ordinary evenings and weekends into warm gatherings for family and friends. Catherine’s creative spirit enriched our everyday lives through her love of art, music and books. She will leave us all with an everlasting impression.

Catherine’s children wish to extend special thanks to the staff at the Dr. Georges-L.- Dumont University Hospital Centre and the Maison Albert House for their exceptional care and compassion during her final weeks.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Passage-Maillet, 29 rue de l’Église, Bouctouche, from 3pm to 7pm. The family will be sharing some loving memories of Catherine at 6:30pm.

This is a hard one for me not just a cousin but a friend. Shared so many garden tips with me and recipes. Catherine was one of the first people to take a quilting class with me in Shediac Bridge. She loved improv and was creative and adventurous in her quilting. She always encouraged me and was so kind to me as I began teaching. My heart goes out to her family, her children and grandchildren. My mother passed away in late November and so I know exactly what you are coping with. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I will always remember Catherine. May your memories of her become your most precious treasures. May she be at peace.
I am so sorry to read about Catherine’s passing. She was a great friend and co-worker. I always enjoyed any time I spent with her and she certainly was a positive face for Canada Post. Condolences to all her family and friends.

When I first joined Canada Post nearly 30 years ago — this upcoming August marks that milestone — I was given just four hours of training before being put to work on my own for two weeks.
This incredible woman was the person I would call when I needed guidance. For the first two years of my career, she was my connection, my go-to, the calm voice on the other end of the line helping me solve problems and navigate my new role.
Her kindness, patience, and knowledge left a lasting impact on me, and I will always be grateful for her support in those early days.
Rest easy, my friend. You will be missed.

It is with a big smile that I will remember Catherine because that is how she greeted you always. So full of fun. I met her through CPAA and have continued in her footsteps as the current VP. Im so sorry that I cannot attend her celebration of life. My sincere condolence to family and friends during this very difficult time.

I had been away this winter and unfortunately only found out about Catherine’s passing today when I received our National Canadian Postmasters and Assistants publication.. It was my pleasure to have worked together with her for many years on the executive of the Maritime Branch Board of CPAA. She was a dedicated, hard working union officer, who excelled in her attention to detail and who went the extra mile when representing fellow members.
