Moncton, N.-B – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Cléophas Gautreau, 94, that occurred on November 4th, 2023, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton.
Born in Pré-d’en-Haut on June 3rd, 1929, he was the son of the late Adélard Gautreau and the late Edith Gautreau.
Cléophas attended Université St. Joseph in Memramcook, NB. He worked at the former french language newspaper “L’Évangéline” for 32 years. He loved gardening, walking and was a true Montreal Canadiens fan. Most Saturday nights were spent watching the game with his wife.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Emma (née Cormier) Gautreau; his seven children: Gilles (Manon Bossé) of Rothesay, Josette (Stephen) Day, Marc (Janice), Maria (Bobby) Spencer, and Jean-Guy (Liette Benoit) all four of Dieppe, Francine Gautreau of Ottawa, and Jacques (Nicole) of Dieppe; his sixteen grandchildren: Sofie, Antoine, Thomas, Craig, Alyssa, Brian, Eric, Martin, Anik, Ashley, Kara, Samuel, Catherine, Julianne, Emilie and Valerie; his three great grandchildren: Miah, Alex and Jackson; his four sisters: Thérèse (late Frank) Gautreau of Dieppe, Huberte Gautreau of Moncton, Anne-Marie (Albert) LeBlanc of Belliveau-Village and Murielle (late Jean-Marie) Gallant of Dieppe; his sister-in-law, Roberta Gautreau (Charles Gauvin) of Moncton; as well as several nieces, nephews and a special family friend, Lise Doucet.
Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Rita Gautreau; his two brothers: Joseph (infant) and Roger; as well as his two sisters: Eliane (late Dollard) and Florence (late Hervé).
Visitation will be held from Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative (363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, E1A 1G1, 506-857-1901) on Friday, November 10th from 12:30 to 2:45 pm. Funeral service will follow in the Passage-Chartersville Funeral Chapel at 3 pm on the same day.
