UPDATED OBITUARY

 Donald Francis Wood
1938 ~ 2020

Moncton, NB –
Donald Wood, 81, passed away peacefully at the Villa Du Repos in Moncton, NB, on Saturday, March 21st, 2020.

Born in Dalhousie, NB, he was the son of the late Colin and the late Laura Wood (born Guimond).

After High School, Donald served in the Canadian Air Force as a radar technician. From there, he went to work at the Cistercian-Trappist Monastery of Our Lady of Calvary in Rogersville, where he served the brothers as a cook and spent seven years in quiet reflection and monastic lifestyle. In the late 70s, he moved to Moncton and began working as a repair technician for Hammond Organ Studios and then later for CBC, where he remained until retirement.

Donald was well known for his devotion to God and for his humble and selfless nature. He taught catechism classes for many years along his wife, Jeanne. Studious and intellectual, Donald amassed a large library over the course of his life and dedicated much of his time and energy to the pursuit of truth. He profoundly impacted the lives of many, especially his wife and step-children. Donald was a man with his eyes set on heaven, and his family is at peace knowing that he is no longer bound to his physical sufferings.

Donald will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Jeanne Wood of Moncton; step-son, Paul Allain of Moncton; step-daughter, Denise Owens (Jim) of California; brother, Lawrence Wood (Marguerite) of Dalhousie; sister, Thérèse McIntyre (late Marc) of Charlo; sister-in-law, Helena; brother-in-law, Conrad; five grandchildren, Julia, Daniel, Lauren, Hannah and Autumn; cousins, nieces and nephews; numerous friends from his faith community in Moncton; and his childhood best friend, Leonard (Ben) Babin (brother of Jeanne).

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Julienne Guitard (Conrad) and his brothers, Roderick and Raymond (Helena).

As per request, there will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernard’s RC Church in Moncton, on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 10:30 am and will not exceed 50 people, due to the pandemic.
