It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Poirier announce his peaceful passing, surrounded by his family, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, on Monday, March 27th, 2023, at the age of 62.

Born in Cocagne, he was the son of the late Yvon and the late Dora (Bourque) Poirier. A well-known member of his community, he was President of Cocagne Variety LTD, a family-owned grocery store.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Janice. He was the proud father of his son, Benoit, and daughter, Monica. Donald is also survived by two sisters: Lilianne Poirier of Moncton, and Dianne (Réginald) Goguen of Cocagne; his in-laws: Ola Collette (Marie), Andrea (Noë) Pellerin, Yvon (Juliet) Collette, and Maurice Collette (Nicole); as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donald had a passion for life and had a great sense of humour. Always happy and smiling, he had an infectious laugh and loved making others laugh. Kids adored him as he had a way of boosting their self-confidence and making them laugh. With an intense sense of curiosity, he loved to travel locally and abroad. He greatly enjoyed watching the Montreal Canadians hockey games, and was an avid deer and moose sport hunter. Camping and boating were also some of his favorite pastimes.

A special thank you to the exceptional staff of the oncology unit at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital and the Extra-Mural.

Visitations will be held at Passage Funeral Home (3754 Route 134, Shediac Bridge) on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023 from 10:00am until time of service. Funeral service will take place in the chapel at 12:00pm.

Donations to the Boîte à Lunch (Cocagne) or to the Canadian Cancer Society in Donald’s memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Je comprends ce que tu passes en travers çà m’a arrivé moi aussi bien trop jeune. çà va être dure mais n’oublié pas qu’il est toujours avec vous autres. Il va t’aider à passer en travers et avec du temps çà devient moin dure, mais tu ne les oublies jamais. Il t’a laissé de quoi de précieux tes deux enfants.     Our heartfelt sympathy for this sudden and tragic loss. I know your are heartbroken over such a great loss as are we.
    So many very fond memories of Cousin Donald and will keep them forever as very precious to us.
    I especially remember the summer evening bon fires at Gauvin’s Beach that was a highlight with Donald and us gathering driftwood for the fire & feast that was to follow in the evening. Donald was always cheerful, kind and funny. Donald was a joy to be around and always a warm smile. Donald has left a big hole in all our hearts and can only pray you will find God’s grace & comfort to carry you on through these very painful times.
