Donat Després
1919 ~ 2022


Moncton, NB – Donat Després, 102, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

Born in Cocagne, NB, he was the son of the late Eric and the late Anna Després (Bourgeois).

Donat served in the second world war from 1941-1946, he then opened his own garage called: Don’s Auto Body. He also worked for many garages in the Moncton area. His passions were fishing, hunting, gardening, bowling (he bowled until he was 97 years old), playing cards and in his younger days he loved to play songs from Hank Snow and Jimmie Rodgers on his guitar. Donat was a charitable man and would always donate to many causes. He was a very religious man who attended Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix RC Church in Moncton and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Donat will be sadly missed by his children: Jean-Paul (Noella), Simone Després (Armand) both of Moncton; Denise Tapp (Gene) of Irishtown, Jacques (Annette), Marcel (Shawna) both of Moncton and Donald of Notre-Dame; his grandchildren: Michel (Toni), Lynne (Ricky), Ginette, Wanda (Rick), Martin (Sarata), Emery (Andréa), Louis (April), Robert (Kate), Joceline (Seth), Monique (Michael), Janice, Serge (Marielle), Natalie (Serge), Robert “Bob” (Joanne), Matthew, Maria, Kyle, Melissa (Denis), Luc (Katie); his great grandchildren: Emma (Véronique), Justin, Alexandre (Sam), Jérémie, William, Austin, Leila, Xaeden, Olivia, Phenix, Kai, Mila, Sofia, Isaac, Jeffrey, Isabella, Jordyn, Justin, Emma, Hugh, Sasha, James, Nicholas, Mathieu, Julie (Nick), Brandon, Sabrina (Justin), Emily, Caleb, Noah, Ben, Danika and Emmett; his great great grandson: Arthur; also by many nieces and nephews.

 Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife: Oliva (Langis); his two daughters: Francine and Fernande; his siblings: Gracia, Joseph (Florence), François (Rachel), Jeanne (Delphis).

Visitations will be held at Passage-Chartersville, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB E1A 1G1 – (506) 857-1901, on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 7pm to 9pm. Please note that there will be no visitation on Saturday morning. Funeral service will be held at Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix RC Church, on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11am. Burial will take place at Notre-Dame du Sacré-Coeur RC Cemetery in Notre-Dame-de-Kent where he will rest in peace with his wife and daughter.

  1. I always had the highest regard for my uncle Donat. In many ways the way he lived his life was an inspiration. Living away from the Maritimes I rarely saw him but he will be missed. My sincerest condolences to his immediate family.

I have such fond memories of all of you. It’s never easy to loose our parents, but you were lucky to have them with you for these many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
