It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donna Marie Steeves, age 57, of Aldouane, NB, formerly of Dieppe. She left us peacefully in the company of her loved ones on March 15th, 2025, at The Moncton City Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the nursing staff on the Medical Oncology unit for their kindness and empathy as well as to Dr. M. AlKarain, for his exceptional care and compassion.

Donna was predeceased by her sister, Carolyne, and her father, Raymond. She is survived by her mother, Yvette; her life partner, Dr. Vijay Sharma, and his children: Devan (Mykayla) and Arun. She will be dearly missed by her sisters: Susan Melanson (Ivan) and Charlotte Leger (Ronald). Donna’s love and pride extended to her nephews: Michel Leger (Marie-Eve), Marc Leger (Nathalie) and Luc Melanson as well as nieces: Catherine Melanson, and goddaughter, Natalie Melanson (David Adelberg). She shared a particular affection for her grandnieces: Emma and Cassie; and grandnephews: Malik and Wesley; as well as her loving cousins. She became an integral part of the Sharma family and will be dearly missed.

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree from McGill and a Masters in Psychology from the University of Toronto, Donna became a much respected pillar of the business community in Dieppe with involvement in Citadel Eyewear, Atlantic Vision Group, Triple Hair and SOS Tactical. She was responsible for the recruitment and support of several Ophthalmologists in Dieppe and was involved in numerous charitable endeavors both locally and abroad. Donna was known for her feisty spirit and never backed away from a challenge. She was fiercely loyal to friends, family and colleagues and faced challenges head on with the right mix of ferocity and humor. She had a great love of travel and experiencing new cultures. There is scarcely a continent which does not bear her footprints.

Perhaps Donna’s essence was best captured in the following words from her life partner:

You are a gem like no other. The configuration is so complex that it defies a singular definition. One face so warm and radiant with the soft beauty of an emerald. Another is sharp and bright and selflessly reflects images like a rare cut of diamond. The third is brilliant and curious, reaching outwards for all the light it can absorb like the rarest of sapphires.

It is truly remarkable to observe a crystal so beautiful that only a perfect light can do it justice.

As per Donna’s requests, there will be no visitation and no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be scattered in the waters near her beloved cottage in Richibuctou.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation.

    Donna was a fearless person, she was a woman of trust and held her friends close. I remember Susan, Angela and Paulette and I would be playing between your house and Babin’s and we always would try to hide and play with her. She was loved by the neighborhood. Every time I would go for eye appointments she would come and always ask how mom and dad were. I did not know that Donna was ill but she is with her dad and sister until we meet them again.     I wish to offer you my most sincere condolences. I was shocked to hear of Donna‘s passing. She was our landlord for many years as we rented the upstairs for Bellissima Medical Aesthetics. Donna was a very caring and compassionate person. It was always a joy to see her walk into the clinic. She affected my life in a very positive way and I will be forever grateful. I have only good memories of Donna and I will cherish them. Heaven gained a beautiful angel. She will be missed.
