Dr. Daniel de Yturralde

Shediac Cape, NB – Dr. Daniel de Yturralde, 73, died March 24, 2016, with love, courage and dignity. He was at home in Shediac Cape, surrounded by his family and three rescue dogs.

Born in Montreal, Dan was also, as his partner Alban Haché says: “a true adopted son of L’Acadie!”

Daniel is survived by his wife Laurel (Van Wyck), sons Daniel (Julie Lawson) and Paul (Kim MacIntyre), daughter Jacqueline, sister Cristina (Iain Ronald), grandchildren Morgyn, Daniel, Jasmine and Emily, his niece Danielle, and nephews Maurice, Francois and Christopher.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Daniel and Therese (Dupuis) de Yturralde, his sister Vicky, her husband Albert Hudon, and his nephew Douglas Ronald.

“Doc D” was passionate about his family, farm, dogs, horses, and his work. He was an Orthopaedic Surgeon, a Sport Medicine Specialist and Chief of Staff/Medical Director for over 40 years in Moncton. He helped found the Dr. Leon-Richard Oncology Centre and the NB Centre of Medical Education in Moncton; he supported the Dumont Foundation and Tree of Hope. Inducted into the Moncton Sport Wall of Fame, Dan was Team Physician to the Moncton Wildcats, the U de M Blue Eagles and many local sports teams. He was Chief Medical Officer for Canadian Figure Skating Championships, represented Canada as a member of the Olympic Medical Team in Lillehammer, served as President of the NB Sport Medicine Council and as Medical Director for the VIII Francophone Summit. Dan recently received a Medal of Honor from the University of Moncton.

As per Dan’s wishes there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A service to celebrate Dan’s life will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 11:00 am, at Paroisse St. Joseph, 415 Main Street, Shediac.
