Dr. John T. Dowd

Moncton, NB – Dr. John T Dowd, 73, passed away peacefully at Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Centre, Moncton following a valiantly fought illness on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. For many years John courageously battled diabetes and was a liver transplant recipient; he underwent dialysis treatment and in his later years endured heart complications.

Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late Dr. Jack and Mildred Dowd (Larracey). John was also predeceased by his infant brother, Michael.

He is survived by his loving wife Valerie; his son Sean, daughter Karen and her husband Andrew Wade; as well as his brother, Peter and his wife Therese; all of Moncton, New Brunswick. He will be greatly missed by his brother-in-law, Patrick Tucker and his wife Marie of Boston, Massachusetts as well as by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

John graduated from St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University and practiced dentistry for over 30 years in Moncton, NB. He was active in the Canadian Dental Association, the New Brunswick Dental Association and participated in several other community organizations. John was a past president of the Moncton Kiwanis Club and awarded for his work as chairperson co-ordinating the Council On Non-Medical Use of Drugs. Through the Kiwanis Club, he worked with children who had learning disabilities by providing them with special needs equipment. For many years he volunteered at the Catholic Information Center as an adult catholic instructor.

John’s family wishes to extend their profound thanks to all of the medical teams in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario who assisted in successfully extending John’s life by over two decades. Your invaluable efforts sustained his life so he could see his children grow up and be a part of their lives.

Visitation will be held at Passage Funeral Chapel, 625 Mountain Road (corner West Lane), Moncton on Friday, February 26th, 2016 from 1:00pm till the time of service. Funeral service will be held from Passage Funeral Chapel at 2:00pm.

Donations to CHU Dumont (Dialysis unit), Heart & Stroke Foundation or to Liver Transplant Fund (Canadian Liver Foundation) would be appreciated by the Family.
