Grande-Digue, NB – Edmond J. Bourgeois, 81, passed away peacefully at the Villa Providence in Shediac, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, following a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Born in Grande-Digue, NB on December 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Yvon Bourgeois and the late Hélène Robichaud.

Edmond was a great athlete, playing passionately hockey, baseball, softball, bowling, and cross-country skiing. He had a lot of hobbies such as travelling, music, dance, cards, genealogy research and his famous garden. The great passion of his life was the Cooperative movement. He was the 2nd manager of the Caisse Populaire de Grande-Digue, followed by a long career with the Fédération des Caisses Populaires Acadiennes. He was very active in his community, having served for different causes and committees. He will be missed by all.

Edmond married Lorraine Richard 56 years ago and the couple had five children: Anne-Marie (Edward Flannery) of Grande-Digue; Daniel (Anne Bernard), Suzanne (Paul Casey), and Yves (Andreea Dulipovici) all of Moncton; and Denis (Élisabeth Moisan) of Quebec City. They were also blessed with ten wonderful grandchildren: Maribeth (Gabriel Maillet and their daughter, Caroline), Julie (Bobby Moffitt), Alexandre, Jérémie, Erik, Étienne, Juliette, Boris, Lucas, Rafael, a new granddaughter due in August; and two step-grandchildren, Neil and Adèle. He also leaves to mourn his sisters, Élise (Alcide Léger) of Shediac; Anita (Léonide Cormier), Lucia Richard, and Carmella (Roger Bourgeois) all of Grande-Digue; Cécile Parrott of Halifax – and a brother, Thomas, of Grande-Digue. He will also be missed by his numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, along with his in-laws, the Richard family.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brother Zoël (Flora Babineau) in 1993 and his sister Juliette (Norman Cormier) in 1991.

Visitations will be at Passage in Shediac Bridge on Sunday, June 16, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral service will be held at La Visitation RC Church in Grande-Digue on Monday, June 17 at 11 am.
