– It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Amyot on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Dr. Georges-L.- Dumont University Hospital Centre. Elaine was born on April 16, 1932 in Joliette, Quebec. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and the late Gabrielle (Brunet) Amyot.

She was a well-known and well-loved visual artist. She started her artistic practice in 1969. After finishing her studies in art at the Université de Moncton, she had more than forty solo exhibitions. She gave many workshops in mandala creation and curated several shows featuring works done in these workshops. She was a founding member of Galerie Sans Nom and of Galerie 12, both at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre in Moncton.

In 1990 she received the medal of the city of Moncton for exceptional services rendered to the community. Elaine retired in 1990 from teaching but continued to do French Language Evaluations. In 2010 Elaine published her first book, The Seven Gates: A Memoir of a Descent, illustrated with many of her own works of art. This same year, she was a participating artist and actor in the documentary film, A Question of Beauty, by filmmaker Colleen Furlotte.

Elaine will be deeply missed by her husband, Ed Lemond; her daughter, Heather (Wendell) of Mill Cove; sons Thomas (Doris) of Moncton and Robert (Bobbie) of Ottawa; grandchildren, Merle (Stephanie), Candace, Nicholas, Nicole (Tom), Kasper, Piper and Briar; and great grandchildren, Livia, Julia, Vincent and Lydia. Step-son, Alex (Nicole) and step-daughter, Anna. Her brother, Edward (Erna) Amyot, niece Jennifer and nephew Michael.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Alexander (Andy) Anderson.

A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at Passage (Mountain Road, corner of West Lane) in Moncton, on Thursday, March 7, 2019. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am till time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am. A reception to follow.
Donations to the Palliative Care unit at Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Foundation or to the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital in Emergency, the 4th floor and especially the palliative care department led by Patty and Donna for their excellent care.
