In Loving Memory Of
Esther Fearon
1931 ~ 2024

ESTHER GERTRUDE (COMEAU) FEARON

(June 2, 1931 – March 23, 2024)

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother on March 23, 2024, at the Moncton Hospital surrounded by her loving family.  Mum was born to Adolphe and Beatrice Comeau on June 2nd, 1931, in Port Elgin, New Brunswick, and was the youngest of nine sisters.  She was the wife of the late Austin Fearon (2015).

After finishing High School at NDSC Convent in Memramcook, Mum attended Nursing School in Bathurst with her sister, Albertine.   She worked for a brief period in Lameque after which her nursing career continued in Moncton for many years.

Esther married the love of her life, Austin Fearon, on November 28, 1953. They had four children. Dad worked shiftwork with Eastern Provincial Airways, and Mum eventually gave up her career as a nurse to look after four very active kids.  That presented her with an ‘interesting’ challenge, but she rose to the occasion, and we all think she did a pretty darn good job!

Mum was a Crossword Whiz and had a remarkable ability to solve the very difficult Saturday editions of The New York Times. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing, bowling, and playing cards with Dad and their many friends.

Her real passion was travelling. She visited some of the South Pacific Islands, much of Europe, the US and Canada.  Given that she came from a large family of sisters, many of whom were musically inclined, she would always look forward to our annual family reunions at our Aunt Ola and Uncle Jim’s home in Port Elgin.  We would join Granny and our numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and family friends for many great times and incredible memories.

Along with her parents and her husband Austin, Mum was predeceased by seven of her sisters and her youngest child, Lisa 2021 (Ted Ehrhardt).  Mum is survived by her sister, Albertine, her children Bill (Jamie-Lynn), Mary Fearon-Keys (David) and David (Monique).  She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Jaimie, Kelsey, Kaelan, Janelle, Rory, Shawn, and Julie, as well as her 15 great grandchildren all of whom she loved and talked about so often.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

It is difficult to put into words our gratitude for the professional care Mum received from Dr. Babin and the incredible staff at the Moncton Hospital and Palliative Care Unit.  Also, we give special thanks to Father Charles Broderick of St. Bernard’s Church for the spiritual guidance and support he provided to Mum.  And we are so appreciative for the on-going assistance and care she received from numerous staff members at Peoples Park Tower while she lived there. We are grateful to all.

Visitation will be held from Passage Funeral Cooperative, 625 Mountain Road, Moncton,NB, E1C 2P1, 506-857-1901, on Monday, April 15, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held directly following at 2:00 pm.  For those who wish, donations may be made to Birthright, Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church or donation of donor’s choice.

  1. So sorry for your loss Bill and Jamie Lynn… having just lost my mom, I can say it is very sad. Knowing she has had a long and active life will foster many happy memories, and the occasional smile while reflecting on them. Know that we are thinking of you at this time, and that there is no one as special as a mom.

  2. She was a remarkable woman. Esther was always a treat to visit. We’d chat about the great times in her life with her kids, her career and her love of travel. She was very bright, and was mastering the NY Times crosswords, right up to her last week with us. We will be together again, sharing a nice glass of rye, soon enough!

  3. Sorry to hear of your loss Bill. My condolences and prayers to you and your family.

We always looked forward to family reunions at Ola’s in Port Elgin when we could count on the pleasure of Esther’s stories and wit. She was a very personable lady with a sense of humour and she will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you at this sad time.

  13. Sorry to hear of her passing. It’s been a long time since I last dropped in out past the airport for a chat. She had a lot to deal with over her long lasting life and may she now RIP and catch up with Lisa and the rest of those that she’s probably been waiting to catch up with. Heartfelt condolences to those still out there in the mix and it’s always tough losing a Mother so to those of you in mourning, I’m sending you a big hug~

  15. My sincere condolences to Bill, Mary, Dave, their families, Ted and extended family.

I have very fond memories of Esther. She was always watching over Lisa and her friends, only wanting the best for us. Lisa and I spent many hours playing chess in the living room while Esther watched sports on TV, major league baseball, I believe. I am going back a few years now!!

I hope your warm memories bring you comfort during this sad time.
