Dieppe ,NB – It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Babineau, 84, that occurred on January 10th ,2024, at the Dr Georges-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton.
Born in College-Bridge, he was the son of the late Tim Babineau and the late Lea(Landry)Babineau.
Gerald’s passion for electronics lead him to his career with Phillips of Canada where he spent 22 years as an electronic technician servicing the maritime region. He was later employed with CTV Atlantic where he retired in 2004.
He showed interest in music at a very young age where he learned the piano. His musical ability lead him to learn and appreciate the fiddle. He played the fiddle for 22 years as a member the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers.
Gerald was an enthusiastic traveler who enjoyed trips with Cecilia across Canada, U.S., Europe, Mexico and special musical tours with the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers. He and his wife Cecilia were active members of the St Anselme Parish.
Gerald will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Cecilia(LeBlanc) Babineau; his sister-in-law, Rose-Marie Cormier; his nieces and nephews: Nicole, Joanne, Georges, Lucille, Bobby, Jeanette, Dorice and Lisa.
Besides his parents,he was predeceased by his stepmother Elodie Babineau; his two sisters: Stella LeBlanc (Thomas-Guy), and Angela Leger (Zenon); and his nephew, Michel.
Private visitation and service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerald’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
A special thank you to the nurses and the doctors of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre for the great care and compassion given to Gerald’s during his stay.
