He was predeceased by his son Gerry in 1998 and his wife Ruth (Reid) in 2011, and by his brothers Patrick and Francis and his sister Mary Louise. He is survived by his brother David (Florence) of Quebec City and sister Barbara Hurst (late George) of Toronto. He is also survived by sons Michael (Edi) of Vancouver and Peter (Linda) of Shediac Cape and daughter Mary-Elizabeth Lewis (Robert) of Surrey, NB and by daughter-in-law Lorette (late Gerry) of Shediac. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Heather (John) of Ottawa; Patricia (Robert) of Ottawa; and Andrew (Sarah) of Dartmouth, NS and his four great-grandchildren Michael, Emma, James, and Emery.
Gerald’s formal education was in agricultural science. He specialised in landscape design and was a well-known horticulturalist and arborist for many years. For several years, he and his wife Ruth wrote a weekly gardening column for the Times-Transcript, and Gerald enjoyed offering gardening advice on a weekly phone-in programme on CBC radio. His interests were many and wide-ranging, and he took great pleasure in his extensive reading all his life, right up to his final week.
