Gerard Melanson

Moncton, NB – Gerard Melanson, 92, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, February 20, 2014, after a brief illness.

Born in Cocagne, NB on March 5, 1921, he was the son of the late Albert and the late Marie (Léger) Melanson.

Gerard was the past president of the Golden Age Club at the Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption parish in Moncton, a member of the Golden Age Club, Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix, retired after 25years from Jordan Memorial Sanatorium, Riverglade, past president CUPE 1193, past president Golden Terrace CO-OP.

He will be sadly missed by his three daughters, Pauline Hudson of Moncton, Annette Melanson of Moncton and Carolyn Melanson (Charles LeBlanc) of Moncton; his sisters, Irène Cormier (late Jean Baptiste) of Bouctouche, Murielle LeBlanc (late Francis) of Moncton, Bernadette LeBlanc of Bouctouche and Albertine LeBlanc (late Antoine) of Dieppe; his sister-in-law, Patricia Melanson of Moncton; his friend, Rita Surette of Shediac; a special nieces Andrea Saulnier of Moncton; also by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Jeanne Saulnier; his second wife, Alice Cormier; seven brothers, Emile, Alphé, Lionel, Edmond, Arsène, Irené and Oscar; one sister, Lina.

Visitations will be at Passage Funeral Chapel, 625 Mountain Road, Moncton, on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Funeral service will be held at Notre-Dame-de-Grace RC Church, Moncton, 854 Mountain Road, Moncton on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11 am.
