Dr. Jean Paul Perreault
(1942–2025)
It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dr. Jean Paul Perreault, 83, Sunday, October 19th, 2025, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton.
Born in Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska, and raised in Siegas, NB, he was the son of the late Martin and late Rita (Cyr) Perreault.
A respected veterinarian and a beloved figure in the Greater Moncton community, Dr. Perreault dedicated his life to the care and well-being of animals. After completing his studies at the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire de l’Université de Montréal à Saint-Hyacinthe in 1970, he began his career with the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture providing care for large animals until retiring in 1997. He also co-founded the Elmwood Veterinary Hospital in 1972 and served generations of clients with compassion and expertise until he retired from practice in 2003. He was dedicated to teaching the next generation of veterinarians, having mentored many aspiring young veterinarians along the years.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Perreault was a man of many passions. He was part of the admissions team conducting entry interviews for New Brunswick residents at the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire at the Université de Montréal à Saint-Hyacinthe. He was an active member (as veterinarian) of the Université de Moncton’s animal protection committee.
As a pilot and avid lover of aviation, he also served as President of the Moncton Flight Club for many years. Whether flying planes, spending time with friends over afternoon coffee, restoring old farm tractors, he approached life with energy, curiosity and joy.
Known for his kindness, generosity, quick wit, and deep loyalty to his friends and family, Jean Paul touched countless lives. He will be remembered as a social, loving, and dedicated man who gave freely of his time and heart.
Jean Paul will be sadly missed by his children: Martin Perreault (Kim) of Moncton and Isabelle Perreault Doucette (Jacques) of Dieppe; his sisters: Norah Perreault Déom (late Richard) of Montréal and Georgette Perreault Franck (Thomas) of Rivière-du-Loup; his grandchildren: Samuel, Benjamin, Stéphanie and Chloé (all at home); as well as several nieces and nephews and many close friends, colleagues and clients.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Francis.
Dr. Perreault leaves behind a legacy of care, commitment, and love — for his family, his community, and every animal under his care. He will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend our thanks to the staff at the Dr. George-L.- Dumont UHC, department 4E, as well as Dr. Theriault and Dr. Landry for the loving care they provided.
A special thank you to Dre. Thébeau and Dr. MacDonald of the Moncton City Hospital Mind Clinic and the staff at the Faubourg – Pavillon Cormier for their compassion care.
Visitation will be held at the Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative (363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, E1A 1G1, 506-857-1901) on Friday, October 24th, from 7 to 9 pm, and on Saturday, October 25th, from 9 to 11 am, followed by the funeral service in the chapel at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory can be made to the PAW-SBA.
