In memory of Joseph (Joe) Gallant

1930-2023

Moncton, NB – It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joseph Gallant, 92, who died suddenly at his home on October 6, 2023.

Born in Grande-Digue, NB, he was the eldest son of the late Victor Gallant and Aurore (Babineau) Gallant. He was one of 8 children, including Simonne, (Gérard), Lorraine (Jean), Lucie, Émile (Emma), Antoine (Carmella), Florine (Raymond) and Jean (Patsy).

A career machinist, Joseph worked 33 years at Atlantic Engine Rebuilders before retiring. He was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace workers.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Généva Vautour (Gallant), three sisters, three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Sr Thérèse Vautour, Sr Rita Vautour and Camilla (Léger) Vautour.

He is survived by his daughter Joanne Heller, sister Florine, sisters-in-law Imelda Vautour, Patsy Gallant, Carmella Gallant, brother-in-law Alfred Vautour, several nieces and nephews, two grandsons Eric (Victoria) and Marc (Andrea) and 3 great-grandchildren, Rosalie, Mathayus and Oriah.

Joseph was a hard worker, a jack of all trades, and despite his health, he still enjoyed gardening, sharing his harvest, repairing his car and maintaining his home.  Despite being completely deaf for the past 10 years, he learned to use new technologies to communicate. He always read his newspaper and was interested in current affairs, and he loved being with his family.
