It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Léo Richard, 88, on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, at this home in Moncton.
Born in DeBlois, PEI, he was the last surviving son and family member of the late John and the late Emilienne Richard (Arseneault).
Léo will be greatly missed by his wife, Beuliah Theresa Taylor Richard; his children: Eric Richard (Catherine) and Debbie Richard (Dave) both of Saint John; his granddaughter, Krista Guay (Duane); his stepchildren: Anne Flannigan (Louis), Ellen Walker (Danny), and Cyril Taylor (Gloria) all three of Moncton; as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Theresa; his daughter, Brenda Marie; his siblings: Lorette Doucet (late Léo), Edward (late Dolores), Anthony, James (late Lorette), Mae Richard; as well as several infant siblings.
Léo worked with the Canadian Coast Guard in Saint John for over 40 years, dedicating much of his life to a career closely tied to the water he loved so much. A proud member of the Knights of Columbus #1310 in Moncton, he found great joy in community and fellowship. Léo had a deep passion for the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and camping, and he also had a fondness for cars and playing cards. An avid traveler, he embraced every opportunity to explore new places and meet new people. Above all, Léo was known for his warmth truly loved people and never missed a chance to strike up a conversation.
The family would like to thank the nurses at the People’s Park Tower, as well as a special thank you to Pam at the Dow Quality Health Care for the great care they provided.
Visitations will be held at Passage (625 Mountain Road, Moncton) on Thursday, March 26th, 2026, from 10:00am to 12:00pm and from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. A funeral service will take place at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church (43 Botsford Street, Moncton) at 4:30pm.
Donations in memory of Léo can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Kidney Foundation.

She always loved to ask about him and when he came to Deblois, she usually saw him and had a wonderful visit with him.He was a charming man ..Beulah is my ex sister-in-law Kim’s Aunt..small world..blessings to all..
