In Loving Memory Of
Laurie Bastarache
1936 ~ 2024

Saint-Antoine, NB – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie Bastarache of Foyer Saint-Antoine, formerly of Baie de Bouctouche. He passed away peacefully on Saturday August 17th, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, he was the son of the late Adélard Bastarache and the late Laura (Babineau) Bastarache.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Murielle Bastarache of Baie de Bouctouche; his two sons: Michel (Suzan) of Shediac, and Mauril (Martine) of Baie de Bouctouche; his two daughters: Maryse (Ryan) Halloran of Cap-Pelé, and Sylvie (Pierre) Langis of Baie de Bouctouche; his ten grandchildren: Mylène (Jake), Benoît, Danie (Gabriel), Alex, Cédric, Yannic, Janie, Samuel, Josiane, and Jasmine; his great grandson, Noah; his brother, Edmond (late Maria) of Grande-Digue; his two sisters: Cécile (Gérard) Breau of Saint-Grégoire and Julia (Camille) Richard of Irishtown; his sister-in-law, Louiselle Bastarache of Bouctouche; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters: Doris, Léona (Clarence), Sr. Delma, and Lina (Albert); as well as his brother, Azor.

Laurie was a fisherman by trade from a very young age. He was involved in many committees within his community such as The Maritime Fishermen’s Union, the local School Board and his children’s sports teams. Besides his volunteer work, he loved gardening, listening to music, going dancing with his wife, playing cards and most of all taking care of his beloved grandchildren.  He spent many hours at the rink cheering on his children and grandchildren.

He was also well known for his unique hearty laugh.

We wish to express our most sincere gratitude to the Foyer St-Antoine staff for the quality of care given to Laurie during his stay.

Visitation will be held at Passage Funeral Cooperative, 3754 Route 134, Shediac Bridge, NB, E4R 1T1, 506-532-1050, on Wednesday, August 21st, from 6 to 9 pm, and on Thursday, August 22nd, from 12:30 to 3 pm. Funeral mass will be held at Saint-Jean-Baptiste RC Church in Bouctouche, on Thursday, August 22nd, at 4 pm. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.
