Dr. Paul-Émile LeBlanc, 89, of Bouctouche passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital University Centre in Moncton on Sunday Aug 26, 2012. Born in Taylor Village NB on November 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Aurèle and the late Olida (Léger) LeBlanc. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Thérèse (Cormier); two daughters, Maria LeBlanc (Calixte) of Bouctouche and Carmel LeBlanc (L.A. Henry) of Harvey Station, one son, Léon (Susan) of Moncton; three grandchildren, Nicole (Luke) Hopper, Denis (Megan) LeBlanc, Chantale Girouard and six step grandchildren, Catherine and Christien LeBlanc, Anna, Robb, Jeremiah and Naomi Larmer. He also leaves to mourn five sisters, Aurela Cormier, Aline LeBlanc, Hermance Cormier (Edgar), Angela Melanson (Raoul), and Francine LeBlanc; one brother, Rodolphe (Claire), and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by five brothers, Ronaldo, Joseph, Normand,Bernard and Joseph Bernard; one sister Jeannita.
Dr. LeBlanc studied medicine at Laval University, graduating in 1953. He practiced medicine in Bouctouche for 34 years (1953-1987), serving as Coroner of Kent County from1960-1977. He was a medical officer for the Air Cadets (1960-1987). He was appointed an officer of the St. John Ambulance Brigade in July 1975, and received numerous honours for his services, including the Governor General’s Award. He was past president of the Richelieu Club of Bouctouche-Richibucto, and president of the New Brunswick Tuberculosis Association for Kent County and for the province from 1972-1974. He received a life membership to the New Brunswick Medical Association.
With his wife Thérèse, Dr. LeBlanc was actively involved in the Parish of Bouctouche. He was a member of the choir at L’Église Saint Jean-Baptiste from 1954-1987, and the president and founding member of the Home and School Association of Bouctouche. He was a Charter Member of the FXJ Michaud Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was the Grand Knight from 1979-1980, and founder and Faithful Navigator of the 4th degree Kent conunty counsel 1885 . Dr. LeBlanc received the Paul Harris award from the Rotary Club of Bouctouche in 1990, and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2002.
Visitations will be held at Maillet Funeral Home, 29 rue de l’église, Bouctouche on Wednesday August 29th, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and on Thursday from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the Saint-Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, Bouctouche on Thursday August 30th, 2012 at 1:00 pm with interment in the parish cemetery.
In Dr LeBlanc’s memory donations can be made to the NB Lung Association or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
