Moncton, NB – Léo Gauvin, 87, of Moncton, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, NB.
Born in Shediac, NB, he was the son of the late Albert Gauvin and the late Geneva Gauvin (née Belliveau).
Léo worked for 28 years at Goodyear and later for 5 years at McDonnell Douglas before his retirement. He and his wife greatly enjoyed spending their winters in Largo, Florida, where they owned a winter home. He loved travelling and held a special place in his heart for the Caribbean and Florida.
Léo was married to the late Jeannette Gauvin (née LeBlanc, 2022) for 63 years. He leaves behind his two sons: Michael (Margaret) Gauvin of Angus, ON, and Robert “Bob” (Denise) Gauvin of Brampton, ON; his six grandchildren: Kyle, Meghan, Michelle, Cameron, Owen, and Jessica; and his four great-grandchildren: Sophia, Sage, Athena, and Miles. He also leaves his three sisters: Jeanine Vautour of Moncton, Bernadette Desroches of Irishtown, and Loretta Savoie (Wilfred) of Fredericton; two brothers, Normand (Dorice) Gauvin and Raymond (Jeanine) Gauvin both of Moncton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, Terry Peter Gauvin, one sister, Félice Vautour and two brothers: Gérald and Roger.
A gathering will be held at Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB E1A 1G1 – (506) 857-1901, on Friday, February 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a light lunch.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Léo may be made to the Mental Health Society.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of
Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative and Cremation Centre.
Leo your kindness, positive energy and bountiful spirit will be greatly missed. The attention you shared with Thomas is a testament to your generosity. We always looked forward to seeing you and Jeannette in between your trips to Florida. We celebrate the life you lived and are thankful for the legacy you leave behind.

Our deepest sympathies to Bob & Denise, Kyle, Meghan & Adam & Miles, and Owen, Mike & Margaret, Jessica and Cameron, Michelle and girls and the extended Gauvin Family. We all will miss Leo’s generosity and kindness he extended to our family over the years. From babysitting, pool swims and swim lessons, and teaching how to colour pictures, properly with in the lines, are just a few of the wonderful memories my kids have with Leo and still talk about as grown adults. Leo and Jeannette always made Todd & I feel so welcome in their home in Bramalea before they moved back to New Brunswick. My eldest staying in Largo in 1995 for a March Break Trip with our Father ( Denise’s & I), was with Leo and Jeannette when the call came of Meghan’s birth and Justine always recalls this momentous day. Getting to celebrate with them, as second time round Grandparents, and how happy they were to have a Grandson Kyle and now a Granddaughter Meghan Jeannette ( And soon would be blessed with many more beautiful Grandchildren with arrivals of Owen, Jessica, Cameron, Michelle, and Great-Grandchildren, Sophia, Sage, Athena and Miles). Todd and I and our kids enjoyed visiting and catching up with them at Bob and Denise’s when they were visiting from New Brunswick or on their way home or to Florida to spend time with their sons, daughter-in-law’s and Grandchildren. Leo had a wonderful sense of humour and a laugh that was contagious! A little bit of sunshine has left us with Leo’s passing; but when we look up to the stars shining bright in the night it will remind us of the twinkle of his eyes. We cherish the memories you’ve made with us. We celebrate your well lived life and the family legacy you have left us. Rest in Peace Leo.

What a great man! We were so very happy to have had a short visit with

I am going to miss his big smile and great laugh, I have known the family for a very long time, he was always willing to show me how to catch and throw a baseball, he also worked at Goodyear with my father, and would often go for a bike ride on his bicycle made-for-two with his beautiful wife and would stop for a beer and Jeanette would have tea with my mum, I know they are all together having a beer and a cup of tea looking over us.
He will be missed!!

I remember Leo from the visits we had when I was a child — moments that may seem small, but stay with you for a lifetime. He always made us feel welcome, and his kindness and easygoing nature stood out even to a kid. What I remember most is his sense of humour and his laugh.
Those visits left a lasting impression. Even at a young age, it was clear how much he loved his family and how proud he was of each generation. That love is reflected in the strong family he leaves behind.
While Danielle, Evelyn, and Katelyn didn’t have the chance to know Leo the way I did growing up, those memories will continue on through the stories we share and through the legacy he leaves behind.

So sorry to hear that Leo has passed away. Im sure that he will be missed dearly by family and friends. As a friend of Bobs since childhood, I had the privilege to know Leo for many years before he returned to the east coast. He was a fun loving, easy going, friendly man to everyone. I will remember him as the kind of person that we all wish there were more of. God Bless
There are so many things that come to me when I think of Leo but I will try to keep it short: some of my earliest memories from when I was a little girl include Leo. He taught me how to colour and I can remember him teaching me that a kiss on the cheek was worth at least over a dollar. I remember being there when Meghan was born and seeing him and Jeanette cry tears of joy. I was blessed to spend March breaks with both Leo and Jeanette and my poppa and how excited I would be knowing that I would have people to hang out at the pool, play shuffle board and colour with (always making sure that I didn’t colour outside the lines). Leo always treated me like I was one of the family and was not only a great friend but a great man. Leo you will be missed by all and my condolences to the entire family. Xo Justine and Adam
I will always remember my Pepere as being the type of person that everyone felt lucky to know. He was kind, quick to laugh, and even quicker to make friends. When I was growing up, he always made time to play with his grandchildren – from colouring books on the back porch to hide and seek in the basement. These are cherished memories I will hold onto forever.
One of my favourite memories (and favourite photos) will always be of him skateboarding at the park during one of their many visits to Brampton. Even though we lived far apart, he was a constant and joyful presence in our childhoods. He created so many special, lasting memories with me and my brothers. We always had the best time when Memere and Pepere were in town, or when we went to visit them in New Brunswick or Florida.

From Sr. Cécile, Jeannette’s sister (precious Leo’s deceased spouse of 63 years). I cannot read all the beautiful comments without adding one of my own and where do I begin? I have known and loved Leo as my dear brother-in-law since the mid 50’s including the good Gauvin clan. Bridesmaid at their Toronto wedding in 1959. Always welcomed by both and their young sons while visiting their family in Bramalea more than once; I also enjoyed the family’s company and their pool… Dear Leo, willingly, would drive me to meet old friends in Toronto. So much more could be said…
It was your loss in Ontario and our gain when Leo and Jeannette returned to Moncton in 1992 (?). My sister, Bertha, and I were overjoyed. I will summarize Leo’s 30 years plus among us in Moncton with cherished memories and heartfelt gratefulness for his bountiful love for us all especially for Jeannette; the best gift Leo gave to his immediate family was to love their mother, my sister. And what a God given gift Leo had of a great sense of humour that we all needed, and so did he, to face daily life with its ups and downs… and sometimes big ones. I could go on and on but I will end with my greatest wish that you, Leo, were welcomed in Jesus’ loving arms because Our Good God loves you even more than all of us ever did. . Dear Leo. I and all present at the funeral home tomorrow will pray for you and for each other and we bid your farewell. Rest in peace. Memories abound. Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Leo. My parents, Ray & Flo Goguen, used to play darts and have kitchen parties in Ontario with Jeannette & Leo along with many other couples. They used to make us feel so welcome. I had to pass by Goodyear where Leo worked while walking home from school, and he would always wave to me. I will always remember his charisma, wonderful laugh and his beautiful big smile!

So sorry for your loss Mike and Bob and extended family. What can you say , your dad was a great man, always enjoyed hanging out with him. The time he drove through New Brunswick with terry, John and myself telling us stories about when he was a kid are memories I’ll never forget. It was an honour to know him! My condolences.
