It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Leonard Standring, 96, on Saturday, May 16, 2020 with his son at his side.
Born in Ashton-Under-Lyne UK, he later lived in Vancouver BC, Powell River BC and with his son and daughter-in-law in Sackville NB since 2007.
Besides his parents, Leonard and Lillian (Turner), he was predeceased by his sister, Ruth (Samuel) Smart, and his wife of 59 years, Kathleen (née O’Brien).
He is survived by his son Mark and daughter-in-law Odette (Gould). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews in England (Ian Stemmler, Karen Hawes, Christopher O’Brien, Joanna Gorton, and Susan Wilde) and their families.
Leonard served in the RAF during WWII before he and Kay immigrated to Canada in 1957. His last employment was at the paper mill in Powell River. He worked in electronics for many years and continued to build clever gadgets and play with his photography equipment well into his 90s. Len’s jovial and friendly manner charmed all he met and he made friends wherever he went. He was a life-long cyclist, a Manchester City FC supporter, an avid photographer and birdwatcher, and most of all, a wonderful husband and father.
He will be dearly missed.
We would like to thank the staff at ProTem for the attentive care they provided at the end of his life.
Because of the Covid-19 situation, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Messages of condolences can be shared with the family through the Chartersville Funeral Home, and donations to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
