1946 - 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lorenzo “Al” Emile Gauvin of Moncton, NB at the Albert House Hospice on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the age of 76.  Al was born in Dieppe, NB and moved to Ontario at the age of 17 where he had a career as a hard-working truck driver and a notable musician “Al Govan and the Rhythm Masters”.   Al began his own company in Ontario as an independent broker and also drove a taxi in the Moncton area when he returned to his NB roots at the age of 63.

Al adored his loving wife of 21 years, Rita (Di Rienzo) and enjoyed playing music, travelling, and spending time with his family and friends.

Al was the proud father of Margaret Gauvin-Hopkins (Darrell) of Nova Scotia, Tina Gauvin (Robert Mackenzie) of Nova Scotia, and Irene Fox-Pechmann (Dennis) of Ontario, chosen daughters Sarah and Jennifer (Joel), grandfather to Elizabeth, Alicia, and Alannah, great grandfather to Faith, Kaidence, and Chase and Special “Grampy” to Justin, Jaxon, Jade, Shane, and Matthew.

Al is survived by his wife, his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, his siblings: Robert (Vickie) Gauvin, Paul (Joanne) Gauvin, Lucille (Mike) Parent, George Gauvin (Brad) and their children and grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members, Maria Landry (Roger), Paul Leblanc, Moe LeBlanc (Annette) and their children, his
Mother-in-law Maria Di Rienzo and Brother-in-law, Carmine Di Rienzo.

Al was pre-deceased by his parents Doreen (nee Mazerolle) and George Gauvin, sisters Marguerite Gauvin and Jane Beattie (Doug), and special canine friend Oscar.

Visitation will be held at Passage-Chartersville (363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB) on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Royal Oaks Golf Club (401 Royal Oaks Blvd, Moncton, NB) from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.  Guests are encouraged to bring their musical instruments and voices to help commemorate his memory.

  7. My heart breaks for Al’s family and friends in this great sorrow. I’ve known the Gauvin family in Ontario for over 50 yrs, since a teenager, and several of them are family members of mine through marriage. Although I did not see Al that often, I always looked forward to seeing him at family gatherings when we were both able to be there, and enjoyed him entertaining us with his singing and guitar playing.
I know he was greatly loved and will be terribly missed by family and friends. My deepest sympathy goes out to everyone and hope they have many fond memories of Al that bring them peace and comfort during this difficult time.
