Malcolm Freeborn
1942 – 2019

Malcolm Freeborn, BA, BEd, MEd, aged 77 of Riverview, NB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. He was born in Moncton, December 20, 1942 and was the son of Ernest and Esther Freeborn.

Malcolm was a member of Central United Church in Moncton, where he took part in Sunday School, Boys Scouts (chief scout award), choir, band and various other activities. He was a gifted soloist and enjoyed an active and successful singing career in Central United Church, the Moncton Chorale (a founding member), Mount Allison Chorale and was a guest soloist in many other concerts in Moncton, Fredericton, Saint John, Halifax and various other conductors over the years. He was attending First Baptist Church at the time of his death.

Malcolm was a school principal for 33 years, beginning his career in Midgic, then moving to Moncton and Riverview Schools. During his time at Frank L. Bowser, he was on the committee for the building of the community “All World Super Playpark”. He was an avid reader, carpenter and gardener. He will be remembered as being “The Hosta Man”, having over 210 different varieties of hosta on his property. He also enjoyed wood carving and wine making.

He was predeceased by his father and mother, Ernest and Esther Freeborn and aunt, Hariette Manzer.

He is survived by his sons, Matthew (Marni) and Mark (Niki) and two grandsons, Will and Brooks; his brother, Ivan (Elizabeth) and his niece, Laura (Dan); as well as his two favorite feline friends, Batman and Robin.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit for their wonderful care, the chemo nurses, as well as the extra-mural nurses who visited, friends and neighbors who offered food, phone calls, visits and support. Your support was much appreciated.

A celebration of life service will be held at First Moncton United Baptist Church (157 Queen Street, Moncton), on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11am with Pastor Richard Jackson officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 am to 11am. Interment will be at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
