In Loving Memory Of
Mary Helen McDonald
1968 ~ 2023

Aldouane, NB – It’s with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Helen McDonald on Tuesday, February 28th, 2023 at the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital in Sainte-Anne-de-Kent.

She is survived by her two children, Courtney and Liam Babineau, who were the loves of her life and her greatest achievements. She was so proud of both of them, wondering how she ever got so lucky to have two beautiful, talented and kind children. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Jamie McDonald.

Mary Helen possess the ability to light up any room she entered and made everyone she met feel special. She had a zest for life that saw her travel the world. She had the greatest laugh and loved her friends dearly, she was generous, kind, loyal and compassionate.

Born in Boston, she moved to Canada when she was 19.

She was well respected and always looking to challenge and better herself, she completed every goal she set with enthusiasm and feistiness, such as completing her MBA. It was important to her to be an example for her children, instilling the confidence that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

Mary Helen was predeceased by her mother, Mary McDonald and her father, James McDonald.

  18. I joined a new school as a 5th grader in 1978. Mary was one of the first people I remember meeting. I don’t remember any specific words spoken, but I remember her smile.

Her smile, her laugh and her making me feel at ease.

    Her smile was genuine. Welcoming.

When she laughed it felt great!

You didn’t have to be anything/anyone else than who you were with her.

She liked you immediately and was so nice to be around. Which was very appreciated by a 10-year-old boy who lacked any social grace at all.

(Upon re-reading that I realize I sound like a boy with a crush. And truth be told? – She was cool, pretty and Nice while I was a socially awkward 10-year-old boy…Sue me. 😉)

We weren’t the closest of friends. We grew up and became adults.

But we reconnected many years later through social media and it was like no time had passed at all.

She somehow managed to send that smile through typing!

I’ve been reading such kind words about her I just want to add to them.

I can’t remember my name from day to day but remember how much her kindness meant to me 45 years ago.

How it still does, and always will.

And how when I think of her, I smile.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

  19. Mary Helen was such a wonderful friend, colleague, mother, study partner, etc. It has been many years since I have had the opportunity to spend time with Mary Helen. I spent many a long evening, lunch breaks and weekend hours working on MBA projects, assignments, etc. back when we were working on our MBA together. She was such an intelligent, compassionate and creative person, and I love working with her on assignments. I have thought of her many times over the years as I saw posts about her on Facebook. I wish our lives paths would have remained more intertwined. My condolences to her children, Liam and Courtney, and to all other friends and family. My heart goes out to all of you. She had the most amazing smile! I just imagine her looking down upon us telling us not to cry over her passing, but rather to have fun, enjoy life and keep smiling. And she is smiling that great big smile of hers down upon us as she sends us this message!

  20. We are so sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with you.

  21. You were the sister I never had through the good and the bad. You will be missed more than you’ll ever know. It was to soon for you to leave us and I’ll think of you more than once everyday. I loved you and always will. ❤️🙏🏼

  22. Courtney & Liam, I’m at a loss for words. You two were your mom’s reason for living. She loved you both more than life itself. I’m still in shock and can’t believe she’s really gone. I will think of her often and all the good times we had as a family whether it be skiing in the Winters or vacationing in Canada in the Summers. Those are the memories I will keep with me always, Love, Aunt Michelle 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

  23. We were so honored to have known Mary Ellen, what a beautiful person she was. ❤

  24. Liam and Courtney,
Your mother had a knack for always smiling and making everyone she meet feel good. My life is better for knowing her.
I will miss her, she used to call and reserve her bedroom when she came to Las Vegas, you are both welcome to use it anytime.
All my best to you both, she loved you with all her heart.

  25. I had the pleasure of being introduced to Mary Helen through the lady’s touch football league many years ago. She was larger life with a smile and personality to match. Always cheerful and ready to take on a challenge. When Mary Helen telephoned, you best be ready to take on an adventure and I was. From whitewater rafting in Maine to vacationing in Cancun Mexico, skiing Mont Tremblant, Quebec and watching the sunrise on the Bay Chaleur in a canoe.
Courtney and Liam be proud of your Mother, as proud as she was of you both. Embrace life as she did. She will be missed and loved by all who were fortunate to know her.
My heart goes out to you all.
