It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we announce the passing of our cherished brother Michael Melanson who passed away the evening of July 31st, 2025, at the Georges L. Dumont Hospital at the age of 67.
Michael was a very special, quiet, sweet, and lovable soft soul with a big heart. He spent his life loving people as much as he did worrying about them. His personality was easy going and always wanted to please others. He liked to tease & joke like his dad and if he said something for a joke to someone he would quickly say to them “It’s a joke.” as he never wanted to hurt anyone.
In his lifetime, he loved music, playing cards, going out to eat, movies and any getaways or outings of any kind. He was a loyal, dedicated and avid New England fan of the Boston Bruins, Boston Red Socks & the New England Patriots and stuck with them through every victory or loss like a true fan and New Englander.
And let’s not forget his other great love – Pepsi; if there’s a fridge in heaven, we’re sure it’s stocked.
He loved holidays, Christmas and birthdays, his or other peoples, always wanting to buy someone a present, gift card or Atlantic Lotto scratch tickets. He loved getting presents himself and would often start a couple months before his birthday or Christmas with a long list of everything he wanted. He was a big kid at heart and it was so heartwarming how happy getting gifts made him and he was always very thankful.
He is predeceased by his father the late Joseph Irois Melanson (2009) and his mother the late Marie Corinne Bastarache (2017). He leaves behind one brother Mark Melanson and one sister Sylvia Melanson (Roger Selesse) and many relatives and friends.
Thank you to the Foyer St. Antoine where he lived for the last year. Special thank you to nursing home volunteer Raymond Williams for the kindness, care & love you showed Michael as he adored you. Special thank you to staff of Intensive Care, Unit 4A & Palliative Care of the Georges L. Dumont Hospital for the wonderful care you gave Michael.
We miss you very much already and will forever. While our hearts will need to mend, we will cherish all our special fond memories of you that will forever warm our hearts and make us smile. Rest in peace Michael. Until we meet again.
Donations in memory of Michael can be made to the NBSPCA-Moncton Local Shelter or to donor’s choice.
Video of the celebration will be posted after the service.
Visitations will be held at Passage Shediac Bridge (3754 Route 134, Shediac Bridge, NB, E4R 1T3) on Friday, August 8th, 2025, from 1:30 to 3:45pm followed by the funeral service at 4pm.

Dear Sylvia and Mark,
Our hearts are heavy with the news of Michael’s passing. We are so deeply sorry for the loss of your beloved brother and our dear cousin.
Michael had such a gentle heart that touched everyone who knew him. His kindness and warmth will be remembered by all of us who were blessed to call him family. We will forever cherish the memories we shared with him – especially those wonderful talks about Boston sports and that unforgettable tubing trip down the Mirimachi River. Those moments of laughter and connection meant so much, and they remind us of the joy Michael brought into our lives.
Though he is no longer with us, Michael will forever remain in our hearts. His memory will continue to bring us comfort and his gentle spirit will live on through all the lives he touched.
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We are here for you both, and we share in your grief as we celebrate the beautiful life Michael lived.

After he left the hospital, I had not seen him, and then he was at the Gros Tyme in Bouctouche and looked so happy!!

Michael will live on in our memories. He was such a kind soul. His love of the Boston teams was second to none. Pepsi was close but the teams were #1. It’s a comfort to know he was welcomed by his parents who he missed so much. Thinking of you both, Sylvia and Mark, during this trying time. Another angel to watch over you.

So sorry for your loss. You did an excellent job writting his obituary. Michael did have a big caring heart. I remember his love for our dogs and Jacob. Often smiling with his deck of cards in hand. He was surrounded by love. He will truly be missed.
