Monique Robichaud
1966 ~ 2019
She was the daughter of the late Jeannine (Clavette) Robichaud and Roger Robichaud (Elianne).
Monique will be missed by her daughter Alicia and granddaughter Valerie, son Jeremy as well as her companion, Mark Robar, several stepsisters, nieces and nephews. Monique was also a people collector, and had accumulated a host of friends who will forever cherish the memories she created in her time with them.
Her unfailing commitment to women’s rights and extensive knowledge of labour issues made her a vital part of the labour movement in New Brunswick. She played a central role on the December 6th Committee of the Moncton District Labour Council, and more specifically, the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, which commemorates the murder of 14 young women in 1989 at Montreal’s École Polytechnique, as well as local victims. As a committed feminist within the Canadian Labour Congress, the New Brunswick Federation of Labor and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, she had been a prominent figure of the 2000-2001 court stenographers strike which led to organizing the movement for pay equity in the New Brunswick public sector.
Monique was known for her compassion and wit. She died as she had lived, instilling love and hope. We are grateful for her high-spirited and committed life.
At Monique’s request, friends and family will gather at the Press Club on Sunday, November 10th as of 6 p.m. to celebrate her life. Visitation will take place on Monday, November 11th, Passage Funeral Cooperative, 625 Mountain Road, Moncton, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral celebration will take place at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12th.
In memory of Monique, donations can be made to Food Depot Alimentaire/Peter McKee Community Food Centre.
