Paul Doucet, 85, formerly of Dieppe, passed away peacefully with family by his side at Villa Du Repos, Moncton, on Wednesday, July 6, after a long illness with Lewy Body dementia (Parkinson disease dementia). Born in Dieppe, he was the son of the late Léon and the late Alice (Gauvin) Doucet.
Paul was employed with NBTel for 37 years. He installed and maintained the old and newer PBX systems (telephone switchboards) mainly at larger companies, installing the entire first 911 system in Moncton. Paul was a loving husband, father and grandfather; and although quiet, he possessed a dry sense of humour and a quick wit. He and Rita enjoyed travelling, having visited some 30 countries.
Paul had many hobbies such as woodworking and was an avid photographer and an amateur
astronomer, building his own huge (8“mirror) telescope, and an electronic motor control circuit enabling the telescope to precisely follow the stars. Paul loved inventing gadgets, building many
useful and beautiful things; he was also a talented handyman and his hard-working nature has lent skill and talent to endless building and repair projects.
Paul was also a long-time captain and canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society, and a very faithful member at the Ste-Thérèse Eucharistic Adoration Chapel before being hospitalized in 2015. He was a life member and past-president of the Telephone Pioneers’ Moncton Council and for several years compiled a monthly Newsletter Brochure for members in the Greater-Moncton Area and beyond.
Paul will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years, Rita (née Després); his son, Guy (Lyne), of Dieppe, two dear grandchildren, Caroline (Shaun) and Alain; and one brother, Vincent (Jeannette), of Dieppe.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Gisèle; four sisters: Corinne, Gloria, Antoinette and Carmella; and six brothers: Ulysse, Oscar, Yvon, Alfred, Roméo and Théodore.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Villa Du Repos, and particularly Angeline and René, for the care and compassion given to Paul during his stay.
Visitation will be held at Passage / Chartersville, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, (506) 857-1901, on Saturday, July 9, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., followed by the funeral Mass which will be celebrated in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
If so desired, Mass offerings would be greatly appreciated.
