In Loving Memory Of
Rafael Candela, jr.
October 29, 2014

DIEPPE, NB – Rafael J. Candela, 62, it’s with heavy hearts that his family share his sudden passing on Wednesday, October 29th, 2014.

Rafael was born to the late Rafael Candela Sr. and Pilar San Roman in Madrid, Spain. Prior to his immigration to Canada in 1967, Rafael had already travelled more than most having lived in Spain and France as well as what is now the Democratic republic of Congo. He graduated from l`École secondaire Vanier, completed a D.S.S l’Université de Moncton before pursuing a Bachelor of Science followed by a Masters of Business Administration at l`Université Laval.

Rafael`s long and varied career in lottery gaming began at the Atlantic Lottery Corporation prior to various ventures specializing in the development of Video lottery terminals as well as the development of international lotteries . His work brought him across South America, Europe and the United States, as well as his adopted home of Canada. He enjoyed a vast knowledge of cultures, art, history and foods which brightly colored the amazing stories he loved to tell.

Rafael is survived by his three sons; Miguel (Annie Roy), Julio (Vanessa Sanchez) and Felipe as well as Denise Melanson-Candela to whom he was married for 39 years. He also leaves behind his mother Pilar and his 2 sisters; Sonsoles Breau and Bego Candela; and his granddaughter Corali. With them his memory will remain alive and continue onto others in the retelling of the tales of Rafael`s life; tales sometimes harrowing, often hilarious and always loved. He is also survived by his many brothers and sisters in-law for whom he truly did become family. With them he created and shared most of the greatest moments in his life and he often spoke of how much they meant to him.

His family held a private memorial on November 2nd, 2014 and would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who have shown tremendous love and support throughout these trying times.
