It is with heavy hearts that the family of Reginald (Reg) Sterling Currie announce his passing at the Palliative Care Unit of the Moncton City Hospital on December 10, 2025. Born in Saint John, NB, to the late Ronald Wilson Currie, a proud WWII veteran, and Bernice (Taylor) Currie, Reg lived a life marked by dedication, intellect, and deep love for his family and friends.
Reg was a devoted husband to Marcia (Melanson) for 37 years, a proud father to David (Dona Ogaick) of Ottawa and Shawn (Connie Olsen) of Calgary, and a cherished stepfather to Renelle (Allain) Girouard of Moncton. His joy in life extended to his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, and he took immense pride in watching his family grow.
He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1957, serving as a Communications Technician overseas in France and Germany. Following his military career, he dedicated 37 years to Transport Canada, including time as a Quality Assurance Engineer in Ottawa, where he met Marcia. Reg’s sharp mind, love of history, and passion for current events and sports were legendary. Daily crosswords and Sudoku kept him entertained, especially the challenging books gifted by his children.
Reg’s kindness, generosity, and sense of humour left an indelible mark on everyone he met, from his poker buddies to his Airforce Veterans Pool League and Dirty 30’s Baseball friends. He cherished memories at the Airforce Veterans Club on St. George Street, always ready to share his wit at the Liars Table. His famous motto, “cheap and free,” reflected his Scottish heritage and his humble, frugal nature.
Predeceased by his daughter Phyllis, his first wife Sheila (mother of his sons), his brothers Sonnie, Robert, Cecil, and Raymond, and sisters Myrtle Snare, Lois Currie, and Lillian Cable, Reg leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom.
At Reg’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. A private military and family interment will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Life with Marcia and Reg’s friends will take place at the Airforce Veterans Club for a joyous gathering to share memories.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Chinnadurai, Dr. Finney, Dr. Shank, Dr. Telgarsky, and all the nurses of the ICU, as well as Dr. D. O’Leary and Dr. McNally of the Palliative Care Unit at Moncton City Hospital for their care, professionalism, and support.

While we did not spend time together in these last years. We enjoyed teasing and arguing about almost anything when we did spend time together, especially after the Dirty Thirties games and get togethers. Rest in peace Reg.

I was so sorry to learn of Reg’s passing. I always enjoyed meeting at the Airforce Vets Club when visiting Moncton. Reg always had an up beat point of view and many stories. He was also a good listener. We will surely miss him.
