Rita Marie Goguen

Shediac – On Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton NB, surrounded by her loving family, Rita Goguen, aged 88, of Ti Bons Soins in Shediac and formerly of Grande-Digue NB, daughter of the late Lionel and Ozélie (née Robichaud) Léger of Saint-Marcel, passed away peacefully following a short illness.
 
She leaves to mourn her two daughters: Rachel (late John DeWitt) Goguen of Nanaimo BC and Claire (Bill) FitzPatrick of Grand-Digue; four sons: Bernard (Linda) of Moncton, Désiré (Anita Melanson) of Moncton, Normand (Monique Daigle) of Bedford NS and Jacques (Jennifer Murray) of Shemogue. She also leaves behind two daughters-in-law: Marjorie (late Camille) Goguen of Moncton and Suzanne (late Paul) Goguen also of Moncton. She will be sadly missed by her sixteen grandchildren: Denise (Blake Kierstead) Doucette of Moncton, Michelle (Brian Léger) Embree of Salem NB, Janette (Mark) Ashton of Sherwood Park AB, Brigitte (Jennifer Morgan) Violette Goguen of Nanaimo BC, Donald (Andrea) Goguen of Springhill, NS, Anthony and Mark Goguen, both of Moncton, Michelle (John) Sinkens of Cambridge ON, Kelly FitzPatrick of Kingston ON, Stephen FitzPatrick of Barachois, Julie (Ryan Grenier) Goguen of Dieppe, France (Ken) LeBlanc of Bedford NS, Christien (Angèle Landry) Goguen of Notre-Dame, Marcel (Vicki) of Grande-Digue, Nathalie Goguen of Trois-Ruisseaux and Carole (Todd Spence) Goguen of Shemogue; and sixteen great-grand-children: Dylan Embree, Jessica and Cora Ashton, Xavier Goguen-Morgan, Scott Goguen, Brittany FitzPatrick, Chelsea Sinkens, Dominique Grenier, Esmé LeBlanc, Jonathan, Stéphane and Gabriel Goguen, Véronique and Sébastien Goguen, Alexie and Marc LeBlanc. She is also survived by two sisters: Maria (Rémi) Hachey of London ON and Thérèse (late Mario) Devona of Toronto ON and by one brother: Lionel (Dorothy) of Fredericton; also by sisters-in-law Vada (late Laurie) Léger, Rita (late Edgar) Léger, Florence (late Roger Léger) (Jaddus) Babineau and Félice (late Curtis) Curwin and by brother-in-law Désiré (Audrey) Goguen. She will also be fondly remembered by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband Marcel Goguen (1975), her second husband Désiré Girouard (1991); sons Paul (2006) and Camille (2009); sisters Élodie, Yvonne, Corinne, Rosia, and infant Ozélie; and by brothers Laurie, Dominique, Camille, Edgar, Roger and infant Lionel. 

The Goguen family wishes to sincerely thank the personnel at Ti Bons Soins for the excellent care provided to our mother during her stay and also the compassionate and efficient staff of the Palliative Care section at the Dr-George-L.-Dumont Hospital.

 
Rita worked for statistics Canada for many years. She belonged to the “Dames de l’Institut Féminin de Grande-Digue” and “Dames d’Acadie”.

Visitations will be held at Passage in Shediac Bridge on Sunday, September 4 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church La Visitation of Grande-Digue on Monday, September 5 at 11 am. No visitations Monday morning. Interment will be alongside her husband Marcel in the La Visitation Church Cemetery.
