(Faubourg du Mascaret) Moncton, NB – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Rita Newlands, 97, on Monday, August 12, 2024 at Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton.
Born in Barachois, NB, she was the daughter of the late Frederick “Freddy” Leger and the late Edmée (nee LeBlanc)
Rita is survived by her daughter: Linda & husband Robert Winsor of Moncton; her two sisters: Angela Leger of Barachois and Alfreda Tremblay (Roland) of Sorel-Tracy, QC; her three brothers: Donald Leger (Rose-Marie) of Dieppe, René Leger of Saint-Antoine, QC and Fernand Leger (Anne) of Ottawa, ON; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband: John “Jack” in 2008; her daughter, Louise in 2010; six brothers: Edouard, Aquila, Roger, Clorice, Amédée and Henri; her sister: Diana LeBlanc.
As per request, a private funeral service will be held at a later date. Internment will be at St-Henri de Barachois in Grand-Barachois, where she will rest in peace.
