Robert D. Maskill
1945 ~ 2019

Grand-Barachois, NB – Robert Douglas Maskill, 73, passed away suddenly at his home in Grand-Barachois, on Thursday, July 11, 2019.

Born in Truro, NS, he was the son of the late James Maskill and the late Catherine Maskill (born Johnson). Bob relished his childhood with his sister and brothers. With his father in the famed Black Watch regiment, the Maskill clan moved around a fair bit. There was a glow in Bob’s smile and a twinkle in his blue eyes when he spoke of times with childhood friends and family in Truro, NS, Kentville, NS, as well as their time in Lahr, Germany.

Bob approached his work with the same passion seen in other areas of life. He was an early leader in Information Technology, developing data warehousing, analytics and strategic forecasting that was on the leading edge of evidence-informed planning. He spent nearly two decades in leadership roles at NBTel and then moved into consulting and a directorship with Telus out West.

Anyone who sat with Bob for a chat came to quickly realize he felt things deeply. Whether it was passionate conversations, sailing, music, nature and the environment, or simply through his giant authentic smile and big laugh, it was evident he cherished the life all around him and the beauty found within it.

Bob loved his family deeply. He was a man of strong principles and fostered these values within his children. Being a father was his highest calling and he lived that role through his community volunteering in Gondola Point and Sherwood Park where he chose to raise his children and as a very dedicated hockey coach for his boys and many of their friends.

It is impossible to capture a man’s life in a few words, and it is more likely how Bob made his loved ones feel in those serene moments together that will fill their hearts through the coming years and trigger memories of his big laugh and smile. Bob loved profoundly and he did his best to make the world a better place.

This world is better, Dad, because you were here.

Bob was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by his partner, Carole Creighton of Bedford, NS; by his daughter, Angela Fallon (Barclay) of Petawawa, ON; by his two sons, Craig Maskill of Moncton, NB and Jamie Maskill of Kemptville, ON; by his sister, Marilyn Stennick (John) of Tecumseh, ON; by his two brothers, David Maskill (Elaine) of Fredericton, NB and Allan Maskill of British Columbia; by his two grandchildren, Robert and Abby; by the mother of his children, Susan (Storey) Maskill of Shediac, NB; and by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Jeffrey Fallon.

In respect of Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A small gathering will be held for family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Atlantic Wildlife Institute, the Conservation Council of New Brunswick or to Able Sail, Shediac NB.
