Surrounded by the love of his wife and children, Robert “Kit” Cyr passed away on April 20, 2026, at the age of 81. A native of Saint-Léonard-du-Madawaska, he was the proud son of the late Annette Devost and the late John Cyr.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Carmel (Belliveau); his three children: Monique Haché (Claude Haché), Marie-Claude Cyr (Pier-Luc Bégin), and Jacqueline Cyr (Marcela Amador); and his grandchildren, whom he cherished above all: Philippe Bégin, Gabrielle Bégin, and Nicolas Bégin. He also leaves behind his brother Donald Cyr, his sister Paulette Gagnon (Lloyd Gagnon), Francine (Greg Thomas), as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whom he loved dearly and who held great affection for him. He is predeceased by his brother John Cyr and his sister Rachelle.
Robert “Bob” Cyr, lovingly known as Kit, passed away leaving behind a legacy defined by devotion, integrity, and quiet strength. Raised in a close-knit family, he grew up with a deep sense of responsibility, a playful spirit, and an enduring loyalty to those he loved.
Bob pursued his studies with ambition, eventually finding his true calling in education. As a dedicated teacher for over three decades at Moncton High School, he inspired generations of students through his passion for biology, environmental studies, and lifelong learning. He was more than an educator—he was a mentor, a coach, and a steady presence who gave generously of his time and heart.
He shared a remarkable 58-year love story with his wife, Carmel, a partnership rooted in laughter, respect, and unwavering support. Together, they raised three daughters, instilling in them strong values, independence, and a deep belief in education and equality. He was a proud and present father and grandfather, a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love.
A lifelong hockey enthusiast, Bob found joy, discipline, and brotherhood on the ice—a passion that shaped his character and remained with him throughout his life.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his humility, his quiet wisdom, and the genuine care he showed to everyone around him. His greatest pride was his family, and his greatest legacy lives on through them.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
To honor the memory of Robert Cyr, donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation are preferred.
A celebration of life for Robert Cyr will be held on Friday, April 24 at 4:00 p.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and again from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative, 363 Amirault St, Dieppe, NB, E1A 1G1, 506-857-1901.

RIP Robert. You were an amazing teacher and were always available to us for a conversation. I especially remember when I was going away for the summer with the Army Cadets to the Arctic for a course. He joked about it all throughout the school year. He was the first person who wanted to hear about all I had done and what I had saw there when I returned for the next school year. My sincere condolences to Mrs Cyr and the entire family. I had Mr Cyr as a teacher a couple times, sometimes even for the same course. I also had Mme Cyr as a teacher at Hillcrest, both of whom were amongst my favourite teachers and people all time. My thoughts are with you all.

I had the pleasure of teaching with Bob for most of my career.Bob was well liked by both his fellow teachers and his many students throughout his career. A true professional in every sense of the word! My thoughts are with Carm and the family!
My condolences to M. Cyr’s family on his passing. I had him for home room in Grade 12 at MHS. He was a favourite teacher from my high school years for sure! My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family, especially Mme. Cyr, who I also had for home room, in Grade 8 at Hillcrest.

So very sorry to hear this. Mr Cyr was truly an amazing teacher and person. He will be missed by all who knew him. I was in his environment studies class and biology. Mr Cyr assigned his students a project to do at home, we had to measure out a distance with a string and name all the flowers on each side, … a week later I handed mine in and he read it, smiled and started to giggle. and said : Mary Lou where did you take this task ..in a cow pasture? … I looked …..I said YES .. I live on a farm and that is all that was in the fields , from then on I had the nickname DAISY for the next three years and once when I met Mr Cyr at a hockey game he called me Daisy and we both laughed. Truly a wonderful person. I did not become a botanist or a plant scientist. LOL. So sorry for your families loss. Cherish the memories.

J’ai été coéquipier de Bob pour plusieurs saisons de hockey (anciens et amis) U de M lors des années 80 et je peux vous témoigner que notre cher Bob était un bon compteur de but et qu’il aimait compter des buts avec beaucoup de consistance. Toujours intense et très impliqué autant sur la glace que sur le banc. Jamais oublié, repose en paix mon cher coéquipier.

We are sad to hear of Bobs passing, our sincere condolences to the family. I taught with Bob at MHS for a number of years and played hockey against him a number of times, I think I still have some of the bruises. He was well respected by staff and students and will be fondly remembered.

I am sorry to hear of Roberts passing. I remember him fondly as a kind gentleman and his passion for biology is still a memory for me as a student of grade 10 biology at MHS. I do also remember my mother coming back from parent teacher visits commenting on his great personality. In many ways he guided me towards my career choice as he was my first biology teacher. I thank him and you for sharing him with us.

Kit always had a construction project on the go, and his sense of humour was always heartwarming. He will be missed.
