Dieppe, NB – Roger Sylvio Gagnon of Dieppe and formally of Grande Digue, passed away on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital University Hospital Centre the age of 89.
Roger will be sadly missed by his second wife Hilda, his son Charles (Charline Doiron) of Dieppe, daughters Denise (Adriano Marini) and Monik (Claude LeBlanc) of Moncton, his grandchildren Luc (Monique Brideau), Cédric, Bianca (Ryan Henderson), Mila (Kevin Stiles), Melissa (Denise LeBlanc) and Sophie (Aron Flannery). He was blessed with 4 great grand children Olivia, Simon, Clara and Caleb.
He will also be missed by his sisters Thérèse Melanson (Normand) of Grande Digue, Claudette LeBlanc (late Laurie) of Montréal Jacqueline Landry (late René) of Moncton and his brother Paul (Murielle Melanson) of Springbrook, by the members of Hilda’s extended family,Germaine Boalio, Georgette Gauvreau, Yvonne Gauvreau,Jocelyne Bater, Raymond Gauvreau,Denise Nichols(Louis) , sister-in law,Juliette Gauvreau and by members Jeanita’s family Linda MacMullen,Eva Cormier,Maria Goguen, Yvon Savoie and by several nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by Jeanita (Jan 2003), members of her family, Alyre. Raymond, Ronald, Alcide, Dianna, sister Pierrette, and by Hilda’s bother Real Poirier, and her sisters Marielle Blanchard and Céline Poirier,fj. Born in Edmundston, N.B., he was the son of the late Sylvio and Françoise ( Gigou ) Gagnon.
Roger retired from the C.N. Car Dept. in 1989, after 38 years of service. Very active in the community that he loved; he was past Grand-Knight of Council #7535, Grande-Digue, Fourth Degree Honor Guard and Commander of Council #1885, Cocagne. KnIghts of Columbus, Past President Grande Digue Golden Age Club, past member Club Récréatif. Roger never counted his time when it was volunteer work for his parish or community. From organizing suppers to trips he gave it his all. He had a passion for books, for repairing things, organizing activities and playing golf. He leaves us after a long and full life.
He knew how to appreciate discoveries made through his many voyages as well as precious moments spent among his peers. When his health declined, he was an example of determination, patience and courage.
The family would appreciate donations to “Pépére boîte à lunch” or another charity of the donor’s choice.
Visitation will be held at Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative (363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, E1A 1G1, 506-857-1901) on Monday, April 10th, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm only. Funeral service will be held in the Passage-Chartersville Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, April 11th, at 11 am.

Dear Hilda and extended family, our condolences to you for the lose of Roger. We met Roger through friends on the golf course and subsequently enjoyed years of his company while golfing and having fun. We will miss him!

Sorry to read that your dad passed away. Many of my own early family memories include him, and I’m sure you all have a million more. After all, that’s what being a great parent means, creating memories for your children.
