Stanley Walter Balch
1937 ~ 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stanley Walter Balch, 87, on Sunday, December 15th, 2024, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Born in Fort Edward, New York, raised in Middleton, NS, he was the son of the late Walter S. Balch and the late Viola B. Reagh (Allen).

With a knack for storytelling, he could always entertain with a great story or two, best shared around a campfire or the kitchen table.

Stanley will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Ann; his daughters: Judith (Mike) O’Leary of New Ross, NS, and Heather (Lewis) Thibault of Lakeview, NS; his step-children: Miriam McCracken of Moncton, and Joel McCracken of Toronto, ON; his grandchildren: Madeline Tanner, Randy Thibault (Allysa), Joe Thibault (Jamie), Caroline Thibault, Kirklin Thibault, and Maia McCracken; sister-in-law, Pat Balch, Kentville, NS and his many great grandchildren; as well as his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert, and Robert’s infant twin sister, Shirley Anne; half-sister, Marcia McGrath; his stepfather, Jack W. Reagh; his stepsiblings: John S. Reagh and Beth MacDonald.

A funeral service for Stan will be held at St.George’s Anglican Church (51 Church Street, Moncton) on Monday, March 31st, 2025, at 11:00am followed by a reception.

  2. Our sincere condolences to Stan’s family. Over the years we were both educated and entertained by Stan’s genealogical knowledge and greatly appreciated it. He will be missed.

    Condolences on the loss of Stan. I always enjoyed him when he took his break with the finance crew at Co-op Atlantic. He was so intelligent and always had a funny story to tell or some revelant history to explain circumstances at the time. He was a very kind person and will be missed.

  8. Stan was a wonderful friend. After my husband died, Ann and Stan would invite me over for dinner and Stan would tell stories. Stan always made me feel so welcome. I will always remember his generosity of spirit and his kindness.
    And to Ann, my dear friend, may you find the peace and tranquility needed to do all that you must do in the months ahead.

  12. I only recently became aware of Stan’s passing.
    Stan was my neighbour in Centennial Place for 26 years. We always enjoyed our “chats” as well as his advice on many subjects. His kids baby sat for us over the years. Ann and family, you have my sympathy.
