Born in Lourdes, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Martin and the late Annie (MacDonald) Martin. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and its predecessor for more than 80 years. She enjoyed the family cottage at Cap Brûlé from 1956, and greatly enjoyed playing bridge.
Virgie will be sadly missed by the family she loved so much, including daughter Karen (Bill) Jarvis of Moncton; grand-children John Jarvis, Kitchener, ON; Kathy Heskett, Halifax; Caroline Jarvis, Vancouver, BC; Jennifer Jarvis, Miramichi; and great-grand-daughter Emma Heskett, Halifax, NS. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Raymond Melanson (1998); her brothers John Martin (RCAF 1943), Leo Martin (1987), and her sister, Kaye MacLeod (2009).
The family will receive family and friends at Passage Funeral Co-operative, 625 Mountain Road (corner West Lane), Moncton, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6th, 2018. There will be no visitation on the morning of the funeral. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, 52 Falkland St., Moncton on Thursday, June 7th, 2018 at 11:00am. Burial will take place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate donations in Virgie’s memory to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Virgie’s family wish to thank the staff of Monarch Hall for their care and kindness to her over the past six years. Thanks go also to friends and family for their visits with her.
