In Loving Memory Of
William “Bill” Murphy
1932 ~ 2022

Moncton, NB – William “Bill” Murphy, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Moncton Hospital.

Born in New Glasgow, PEI, he was the son of the late William and the late Winnifred “Winnie” Murphy (Carr).

William will be sadly missed by his loving wife: Marina Murphy (Gallant); his children: Peter (Amparo) of Aurora, ON, Eugene (Hélène) of Dieppe, Robert (Dianne), Maureen Murphy, John all of Moncton, Lorna MacMillan (Mark) of Halifax, NS, and Melanie Murphy (Chris Albers) of Kimberley, BC; his grandchildren: Nathalie MD, Stéphanie (Jean-Claude), Meghan DDS, Michelle, Erika, Sean, Annick MD, Jake and Rachel; his sister-in-law: Pheda of Quebec; also by many in laws and nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister: Marie Deighan (late Carl) and his brother: Eugene.

Bill met Marina at a Rollaway Club dance in Charlottetown in 1956. They fell in love and married shortly after in 1957 in Rustico, PEI.

Bill worked for 37 years as a machinist with the CNR where he made many life long friends.

He loved his large family and was very proud of all his children and grandkids.

Billy was a gentle loving man who felt blessed with his life and family. He was quick with a smile and happiest when he was helping others. Faith was a big part of his life and he was a minister of Communion at St. Augustine’s church for many years.

Bill was an avid curler and member of the Beausejour Curling Club. He loved his woodworking and made many beautiful pieces that will be cherished by his family for years to come. He enjoyed dancing, outings with his family and road trips, especially those with George and Fanny.

Bill’s kindness extended beyond his family and friends. Bill and Marina supported many children and families in developing countries through Chalice and Save a Family Plan. He was an active volunteer with many community organizations including Omista Credit Union, Scouts, Knights of Columbus, and he was especially committed to working with organizations supporting the intellectually challenged.

  1. As a child I grew up in the neighborhood and Mr Murphy was indeed a kind soul and always smiling. Some of his woodworking projects could be seen in the backyard and they always drew my attention and brought a smile to my face. I didn’t know the family well but we grew up in the same neighborhood, surrounded by familiar faces. My sincere condolences, prayers and thoughts are with you during these difficult times.

  13. Melanie and family,
As you know, I have MANY fond memories of spending time at the Murphy’s over the years…it was like a second home to me. How did I not know that Bill was an avid curler?!? What I do know is that he was a kind, quiet, gentle soul even when he was disciplining Melanie and I when we were much younger. I’ve often told people about the time he told me to get out of the laundry chute and the many times he turned off the TV because of a scene he felt wasn’t age appropriate (he had perfect timing for walking into a room to check on us). Bill certainly loved his family and his faith. My heart aches for you all and to this day, I cherish my memories with the Murphy family…they always treated me like one of their own. Please find comfort in knowing that I’m thinking of you all ❤️
