It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Yvon Gérard Bélanger on August 11, 2021 at the age of 73 years and 3 months at the Georges L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton. Originally from Edmundston and living in Dieppe, he was the son of the late Joseph-Antoine Bélanger and the late Laurette Côté.
He was the brother of Paulette Thibodeau (Normand) of Edmundston and Denyse Bélanger-Dow (Stephen) of Markham, ON. He is also survived by the Robichaud family, several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He was educated at the University of Moncton (Edmundston Campus) and in theology at Séminaire Laval in Quebec before being ordained a priest in 1975 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Edmundston by Mgr. Fernand Lacroix. He was curate in the parishes of Immaculate Conception, St Léonard and Saint-Quentin.
He subsequently married the late Claire Robichaud. After receiving a master’s degree in psychology from the Université de Moncton, he practiced as a school psychologist in schools in the greater Moncton area and those of the Acadian Peninsula.
Retired, Yvon traveled and spent his winters in Florida with Claire.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Claire Robichaud (April 2021).
A Celebration of Life on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Pokemouche.
Interment will be in the Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens cemetery in Pont-Landry.
In memory of Yvon, a donation to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the NB Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe (857-1901).
C’est avec grande tristesse que la famille annonce le décès soudain de Yvon Gérard Bélanger le 11 août 2021 à l’âge de 73 ans et 3 mois à l’hôpital Georges L. Dumont de Moncton. Originaire d’Edmundston et demeurant à Dieppe, il était le fils de feu Joseph-Antoine Bélanger et de feu Laurette Côté.
Il était le frère de Paulette Thibodeau (Normand) d’Edmundston et de Denyse Bélanger-Dow (Stephen) de Markham, On. Il laisse également dans le deuil la famille Robichaud, plusieurs neveux et nièces, parents et amis.
Il a fait ses études à l’université de Moncton (Campus d’Edmundston) et en théologie au Séminaire Laval de Québec avant d’être ordonné prêtre en 1975 en la cathédrale Immaculée Conception à Edmundston par Mgr. Fernand Lacroix. Il a été vicaire aux paroisses Immaculée Conception, St Léonard et Saint-Quentin.
Il s’est par la suite marié à feu Claire Robichaud. Après avoir reçu une maitrise en psychologie de l’université de Moncton, il a exercé la profession de psychologue scolaire dans les écoles de la grande région de Moncton et celles de la Péninsule Acadienne.
À la retraite, Yvon a voyagé et passé ses hivers en Floride avec Claire.
Outre ses parents, il fut prédécédé par son épouse Claire Robichaud (avril 2021).
Il y aura une célébration de la vie le mercredi 25 août 2021 à 13h30 l’église de l’Immaculée-Conception de Pokemouche.
L’inhumation se fera au cimetière Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens de Pont-Landry.
En mémoire de Yvon, un don à la Fondation des maladies du cœur du N.-B. ou à la Société du cancer du N.-B. serait apprécié.
Les arrangements funéraires sont confiés à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe (857-1901).
