Cocagne, NB – It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Yvon Poirier of Cocagne at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, November 9, 2014.
Born in MacDougall Settlement in 1925, NB, he was the son of the late Albert and the late Euphémie (Lirette) Poirier.
A well-known member of his community, Yvon was an entrepreneur his entire life, first in the logging business, started as a teen, then construction and a retail store before going back to what he most thoroughly enjoyed, the logging business which he continued to pursue actively until in his early 80s. He was, for many years, director of the SENB Wood Marketing Board and had a keen interest in forest management. His belief in the Alcoholics Anonymous program to maintain sobriety was unshakeable. He was a founding member of the Cocagne AA Group. His quest for knowledge started even as a boy. He had an intense curiosity and a passion for life. For many years, he was an avid salmon sport fisherman, took dancing lessons and competed in events. He loved traveling locally and abroad. He enjoyed every day to the max. To his children, he was a wise father and even up until his last day was a source of inspiration to them. He had a great life.
Yvon will be sadly missed by his common-law wife, Lina Pellerin; his two daughters and his son, Liliane Poirier of Moncton, Dianne Goguen (Réginald) of Cocagne and Donald (Janice) of Cocagne; four grandchildren, Suzanne, Benoit, Monica and William; one great grandchild, Maxime; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irène Goguen, Albertine Bourque, Thérèse Bourque, Alcide Bourque (Ida) and Camille Babineau; also by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Dora (1984); two infant brothers, Henri and Désiré; one brother, Alyre (2005).
Visitations will be at Passage in Shediac Bridge on Thursday, November 13 from 5 pm until time of service. Funeral service will be held at Passage Chapel in Shediac Bridge, on Thursday, November 13 at 7 pm. Burial will be at St-Pierre-de-Cocagne RC cemetery on Friday.
