Grande-Digue, NB – At the “ Centre hospitalier universitaire Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont” in Moncton, surrounded by her loved ones, Yvonne Bourgeois, wife for 70 years, of the late Odule Bourgeois, affectionate and devoted mother and grandmother, greatly appreciated by many friends, passed away, on Sunday, May 21st, 2017, at the age of 92.

Born in Notre-Dame-de-Kent, NB, she was the daughter of the late Blair and Élodie LeBlanc.

Very active and committed woman, Yvonne, alongside her beloved husband, largely contributed to the success of the family business "Bourgeois Poultry Ltd". In her desire to promote the emancipation of women, she played a leading role in the foundation of various women assistance organizations at the local and provincial levels, in particular: 4-H Clubs and the French-speaking Women Institute of the N.-B. She was also an active member for several years, on provincial and national committees, dedicated to the advancement of women and to local and provincial development. Her leadership and her valuable contributions were recognized by numerous distinctions and especially the prize of the Governor General of Canada for “The Person Case", in 2000, for her outstanding contribution to the promotion of the status of woman.

Yvonne will be dearly missed by her four sons, Ronaldo of Grande-Digue, Gilles of Moncton, Charles-Edouard (Marie) of Québec and Jean-Robert (Sylvie) of Memramcook; her two brothers, Thomas (late Élodie) of Grande-Digue and Blair (Aurelda) of Notre-Dame-de-Kent; her two sisters, Germaine Léger (late Armand) and Elnora LeBlanc of Newfoundland; her sister-in-law, Stella Petitpas; her ten grand children, Justin, Monika, Anitya, Pamyna, Virginie, Louis-Charles, Jean-Philippe, Annie, Geneviève and Marc-André as well as her two great grandchildren, Félix and Marie-Claire.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Rita, Sarah and Louise; three brothers, Léo, Laurie and Frank.

Visitations will be held at Passage in Shediac-Bridge on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Funeral mass will be held at La Visitation RC Church in Grande-Digue on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11am. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
