SONIER, JOSEPH ALBINI. At the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, passed away peacefully Albini Sonier, on Saturday, April 13th, 2013, at the age of 93, after a brief illness. He lived in Dieppe and Cocagne most of his life. Born in Saint-Antoine, Kent County, on January 13th, 1920, Albini was the son of the late Olivier Saulnier and the late Aurélie Cormier. He was married to the late Ella (née Cormier). A World War II Veteran, Albini served in the Saint-Hyacinthe Regiment. For several years, he worked for Coop Farms Services in Moncton, after which he was self-employed as a travelling salesman in the Maritime Provinces until his retirement. He first became a Knight of Columbus in Parkton and continued to serve in Cocagne. He was a former President of the Golden Age Clubs of Dover and Cocagne and also a former President of the Kent Zone of the Association des Aînés et Aînées du Nouveau-Brunswick. He organized bus tours for golden agers over a span of 10 years. He thoroughly enjoyed gardening, invented useful things, playing cards and dancing.

Albini leaves to mourn three children: Jeannine (Éric) Robichaud and Donald (Geneva) of Dieppe, and Gisèle Sonier (Darlene Randall) of Moncton; five grandchildren: Pierre, Marcel, Erica, Christel and Jean-Luc; and five great-grandchildren: Jessica, André, Brady, Evan and Sébastien. He also leaves two brothers: Joseph of Dieppe and Désiré of Moncton; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Albini was predeceased by two sons in infancy: Jean-Paul and Guy; three brothers: Jean, Alfred and Éloi; and four sisters: Éléonore, Marie, Lina and Anita.

The family will receive condolences at le Passage in Shediac Bridge on Monday, April 15th, from 7-9 p.m., and on Tuesday, April 16th, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 16th, 2013 at Saint-Pierre-de-Cocagne RC Church in Cocagne 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Cocagne cemetery, where Albini’s remains will rest.
