Alfred Melanson, 88, of Moncton and formerly of Dieppe, NB, passed away on Tuesday, January 13th, 2015, at the Moncton Hospital.
Born in Lewisville, NB, he was the son of the late William and the late Rosanna (née: LeBlanc) Melanson.
Mr. Melanson was a barber for 49 ½ years at the Paramount barber shop. He was a member of the Club d’Age d’Or and Saint-Anselme parish. Mr. Melanson was involved in his community; he served as a Dieppe Town Councilor from 1960-1968; 1st chairman of the Dieppe Industrial Park for 12 years; chairman of both the Dieppe Centennial Arena and the Dieppe War Memorial fund raising committees. He was also the recipient of the Melvin Jones award from the Lion’s Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores (née: LeBanc); one daughter, Anne-Marie (Fernand) LeBlanc of Moncton; three sons: Guy of Moncton, John of Winnipeg MB and Luc (Anne) of Dieppe; four brothers: Ovila (Thilda) and Fr. Aurèle, both of Moncton, Edgar of Stoughton, MA and Emery (Bernice Cormier) of Dieppe; 4 grandchildren: Alex, Jennifer, Natalie and Caroline; three great grandchildren: Annabelle, Genevieve and Adyn, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Lina, and also by two brothers: Gerald and Laurie.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB (857-1901) on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and also on Saturday from 9: 30 am until time of departure.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB, on Saturday, January 17th, 2015 at 10: 30 am.
Interment in Saint-Anselme parish cemetery, Dieppe, NB.

M. Melanson a été barbier au commerce de barbier Paramount pour 49 ½ années. Il était membre du Club d’Age d’Or et de la paroisse Saint-Anselme. M. Melanson a été impliquer au sein de sa communauté, Il a siégé comme conseiller pour la Ville de Dieppe de 1960-1968; président de la commission du Parc Industriel pour 12 ans; président des comités de levée de fonds pour l’aréna Centenaire et pour le monument des anciens combattants à Dieppe. Il a été présenté la distinction Melvin Jones par le Club Lion.
Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Dolores (née: LeBlanc); une fille, Anne-Marie (Fernand) LeBlanc de Moncton; trois fils: Guy de Moncton, John de Winnipeg MB et Luc (Anne) de Dieppe; quatre frères: Ovila (Thilda) et Fr. Aurèle, tous deux de Moncton, Edgar de Stoughton, MA et Emery (Bernice Cormier) de Dieppe; quatre petits-enfants: Alex, Jennifer, Natalie et Caroline; trois arrière petits-enfants: Annabelle, Genevieve et Adyn, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.
Outre ses parents, une sœur, Lina ainsi que deux frères: Gerald et Laurie, l’ont précédé dans la tombe.
Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe, (N.-B.) (857-1901) le vendredi de 14h à 16h et 19h à 21h et le samedi de 9h 30 jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles.
La messe des funérailles aura lieu en l’église Saint-Anselme à Dieppe, N.-B., le samedi 17 janvier 2015, à 10h 30.
L’inhumation se fera au Cimetière paroissial Saint-Anselme à Dieppe, N.-B.
Un don à la Société Alzheimer serait apprécié par la famille.
