Amelia Jane (Avard) Eaton
1939 ~ 2020

Jane (Avard) Eaton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Monarch Hall in Riverview, NB after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Her loving family was by her side. Born May 16, 1939 in Moncton, NB, Jane was the daughter of the late Eva (Price) Avard and Gaius Avard. She is survived by her three sisters: Marilyn MacDiarmid, Clarene White and Anne Spinney (Craig).

Jane believed strongly in the importance of education. She attended Mount Allison University, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology. She was awarded the Frances S. Allison Award, as top female student. She continued her education at Tufts University in Boston, MA on full scholarship, earning a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

Upon graduation, Jane worked at the SickKids Hospital in Toronto, ON with young patients going through frightening diagnoses and procedures. She also taught primary school in Riverview and London, England before returning with her husband, Bob, to their hometown of Moncton to start their family.

Jane was smart, funny, loyal, tough, classy, and loving. She was dearly loved and cherished by her family. Jane will forever be remembered by her loving husband, Bob, and their children: Shannon, Alexandrya, Chris and Rob; and their spouses: Mike, Bruce, Laura and Amy. Jane instilled the love of reading in her grandchildren: Robbie, Sara, Katie, Chloe, Abby, Nina, Molly, Idris and Louis. They all have fond memories of their Grammy and will miss her hugs.

We would like to thank the staff of Monarch Hall for their kindness, care, and understanding. Jane’s family will be forever grateful for the wonderful nursing staff who cared for her with such love and attention. It was a blessing to her family that Jane was surrounded by such caring individuals.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the A. Jane Avard Eaton Awards for Student Leadership Fund at Mount Allison University (www.mta.ca/donate) or to the Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of Jane’s life will take place at a later date.
